Comments about Vixen R130Sf Reflector Telescope with Porta II Mount:

I've been owning this telescope for more than 5 yrs now and i must say,it has very well lived upto its expectations of being a quality instrument.
i'd bought this when i was a teenager having a serious interest in astronomy and for my first scope,i wanted something really good.
so years of research(yes, when you are kid and you want all the bells and whistles) i finally settled on to this with the hope of moving up into a better scope as the years rolled by.

Now,about the scope,
its of really good quality, the optics are fantastic and even after these long years, the views are still gorgeous.
its more suited to viewing star clusters and faint objects, the fast ratios and wide field treat you with superb views of deep sky objects and even though i use filters in planetary viewing,I've never really been pleased with the views of Jupiter,it appeared bright but a little out of detail, could be the skies though.
the stock eyepieces are good delivering good contrast and sharpness, i do recommend purchasing additional eyepieces it to get wider field of view.
The mount is rock solid and it anchors the telescope well, its lightweight and easy to carry,

the only let down i felt was the long focuser,i wouldn't have mind the longer tube length but the extension tube attachment makes it seem a bit long and the focuser isn't good at higher powers.
all in all,its a wonderful package,it maybe a bit pricey compared to the others, you can get much better deals and if i were to buy it today at the given budget,i'd still pick this over others,
its good quality, reliable and you get what you pay for!
its one of the best grab and go telescopes around

Comments about Vixen R130Sf Reflector Telescope with Porta II Mount:

The documentation for this product seems to have been written first in Japanese, then translated to English by someone for whom English is not a native language. It is skimpy and incomplete, and woefully inadequate for a beginning astronomy fan. Both slow-motion controls failed and 15 days have elapsed since Vixon said their replacements were in the mail from California. All of this makes me a skeptical second-time buyer of more Vixen products

Comments about Vixen R130Sf Reflector Telescope with Porta II Mount:

I’ve owned the Vixen R130Sf now for about 2 years. It has been right from the start a good scope. I bought it in the Porta mount package. The initial images of the moon and Jupiter were eye watering and I especially liked the way the slow motion controls kept the object in sight without making it all jittery like my older (and cheaper) scope did. Last summer we had the chance to get out in the country and that’s when the 5” mirror did its best. I was able to show my wife and kids some pretty cool clusters and nebula. It was just fun scanning through the Milky Way galaxy with the slow motion controls.
The two eyepieces that come with the scope are good but I did wind up buying an additional 40mm eyepiece for extra wide views.

As my first real telescope I really like the Vixen. It has really lived up to the research I did before buying it. I searched the forums and found what folks were saying. Overall a good buy!

Comments about Vixen R130Sf Reflector Telescope with Porta II Mount:

i bought this scope from an authorised vixen dealer.at first sight the telescope is a real eye catcher.it is very easy to use and the optics are of exceptional quality. The 20mm and 6.3mm plossol was quiet remarkable, although the quality could have been a little better.the scope is good at astrophotography but if you are a serious photo enthusiast consider replacing the focusser as it is quiet shaky when you load a lot of heavy things to it.contrast, and sharpness was great and the visibility of the rings of saturn was remarkable.there are many things which affect a scopes performance including light pollution, turbulance, chill etc overall a great package .the scope can be upgraded to suit the users intrest.i suggest buying a quality filter set, barlow lense and u are good to go.
