Comments about Red Ember Fairfield Propane Fireplace:
I just received this yesterday and I like it. It looks nice, is easy to put together and seems to work fine. Although it claims to put out about 50K BTUs, I'm not sure how much of that you'll feel sitting in front of it as most of the heat goes straight up the chimney rather than out the front/sides. I manufactured a steel cover for the chimney that redirects the heat coming out the top forward toward our seating area, but I still think it will produce more ambiance than warmth. :) Still, I'm happy with my purchase and I'm looking forward to enjoying it this winter. It has a battery powered igniter which is also nice. The 10 ft hose is also helpful to keep the propane tank away and out of sight.
The instructions aren't the clearest and I did have to take it partially apart after I realized where a couple of extra parts went which wasn't quite clear in the instructions without looking at the small diagram very carefully. Also, make sure to assemble the entire fireplace surround and sides with all bolts kept loose until all parts are fitted together, otherwise it's tough to get the holes on all pieces to line up. Once they're all installed and lined up, *then* tighten down everything.
I didn't like the fact that the carrier also left me with a wooden pallet and said he could not take it with him. Not sure why -- I didn't purchase a pallet and had to spend a half hour breaking it down and cutting up the pieces for the garbage collectors. I didn't pay for the extra-special delivery, but I still don't see why I should be stuck with the pallet. The cardboard box and packaging, yes, but not the wooden palette he used to move it into my garage from the truck.
