The item arrived very quickly and looked exactly as the picture. It had small nicks on the side which I assume you can easily touch up but no other negatives. It's really great quality for an item that has to be put together at home and for the price! I have small children and was afraid of their little finger getting caught on the seat part but the hinges are so nice and close slow that I don't have to worry about that. The bench has great space for work bags, umbrellas and baby bag. The color was perfect and was surprised it looked just like the picture. I attached a picture but keep in mind it looks darker in mine that it really is. Also, it doesn't bother us but coats will drag a little on the bench - shown in picture.
We are very happy with our new hall tree.

The good:
-Well packaged.
-Arrived on time.
-Good assembly instructions.
-Attractive, decent finish.
-Mirrors are a nice touch.
-My wife loves it :-)

The not so good:
-Because of the design, the coat hooks are lower than you might expect. Not a huge deal, just a little different and may not sit well with some people.
-Near the top, on the inside of the upright pieces, to the left and right of the upper row of mirrors, the silver tightening anchors/fasteners are visible. It would have been nice if a color coordinated sticker or something to that effect had been provided so they could be covered.
-The build/quality is typical for particle board furniture that needs to be assembled, however because it's a piece of furniture that's subject to more handling than other types of furniture (hanging potentially heavy clothing, opening and closing of the chest/storage compartment lid, etc.), I'm a little concerned about its long term durability.
-There are wood dowel inserts used to align some of the pieces but the instructions do not call for using glue. Though I didn't use glue, I felt like it would have helped make it more robust.
-Alignment of the inserts for the threaded bolts could use improvement.

The bad:
-The pre-drilling of the holes was inconsistent and in many cases drilled to big - primarily the holes for the small screws used for the hooks. One of the hooks will require longer or bigger screws to be secure.
-The silver tightening anchors/fasteners are cheap and during assembly it felt like none of them really tightened properly. Two of them broke but there were a couple extra ones in the hardware packet.

Closing comments:
-Even though the hardware didn't leave a warm, fuzzy feeling during assembly, after it was completed it seemed sturdy enough.
-It's cookie cutter furniture that requires assembly using fasteners - no glue or dove tailed interfacing for sure. I knew this when I bought it and for what it is, overall it's pretty good.
-I read some of the reviews that reported it took several hours (4, 5?) to assemble and it was difficult. Really? My wife and I did it in a about 2 hours with a short break and not rushing. She read the directions and I did the assembly. Just like everyday life - she gives the orders and I follow them :-). A happy wife means a happy life! Kidding aside, it would have been closer to 1.5 hours if I didn't have to deal with some misalignment and broken hardware.
-In summary it's pretty good for what it is. We looked in furniture stores and lower-end hall trees were at least $500-$600. Really nice ones were much more.

Bottom line:
-I'd recommend this hall tree if you want to save money and get a nice looking piece of furniture.

Comments about Belham Living Richland Hall Tree - Espresso:

For the price, this hall tree really should be rate 5 stars but the material is a little bit flimsy and the hardware isn't too terribly strong. I worry how much weight the lid can handle if sat on. It is on the smaller side so looks miniature in my vaulted entryway but it'll do for now. It's definitely pretty, mine arrived without any defects and was simple to put together. May require 2 people for some parts of assembly.

Comments about Belham Living Richland Hall Tree - Espresso:

In the picture, look extremely close towards the top under the shelf. When this item is put together, two metal cam-locks are easily visible on both sides. It looks really tacky. I can't believe they didn't include plastic screw covers to hide them. Even cheap Ikea stuff does. I had to waste 20 minutes online finding the right size and order 100 piece set up them for $10. You will need 4 and optionally 10 more that you see when you open the bench.

This halltree is gorgeous!!! My dad started assembling it at 11 a.m., stopped at 12:15, and then he worked from about 2:00-5:30 to complete the assembly. He needed my help putting the screws in on the bench as well as the hinges. It looks beautiful, and if you are very good at assembling furniture then you won't have a problem, but it is very time consuming. My dad had a Handyman business for a long time, and it was still difficult for him to assemble this halltree.

Comments about Belham Living Richland Hall Tree - Espresso:

My husband and I spent about 2 hours putting it together and it was pretty easy. The instructions were ok and on par with self assembled products. It is really beautiful and very functional. I don't know if it was during the shipping process or from the factory but mine had numerous scratches where the paint was scratched off. I wrote to Hayneedle and they immediately offered me money back for the condition. GREAT service!! Thank you!

Look for the price it's about what I expect. The "wood" is a dense combination of materials and the cheap cam locks that hold it together are what make this unit affordable. It's questionable how durable this thing will be and makes me nervous how much weight it can handle. Assembly takes patience but if you can follow instructions it shouldn't take you and a partner more than a couple hours to finish. One of the panels came slightly damaged ( I can't tell if it was from shipping or when it may have occurred) but other than the one piece everything else was fine. Super sleek look once it's put together...hope it doesn't fall apart too soon.

This hall tree is exactly as expected minus one small detail. At the very top of the hall tree, there are four bolts that hold the top on. There are not covers for them, so you are left with bright shiny bolts exposed. I wish they had covers to pop over those so they didn't show quite as much, but other than that, we were very impressed!
