Comments about Irregular Rustic Garden Potting Bench - Dark Brown:

One piece arrived broken. I attempted to glue it and proceed but the pieces just wouldn't fit together. I am so disappointed because it appeared to be exactly what I wanted...

Delightfully rustic, but holes are bad

Comments about Irregular Rustic Garden Potting Bench - Dark Brown:

Somebody definitely messed up on the manufacturers end. It took a bit of hacking to make it all come together. The holes along the top in step 2 don't match the large screws, and no matter how much drilling we did, they were not going in. To make up for it, we screwed in screws from steps 3 and 4 and when we got to those steps, used some Phillips head wood screws (with pointy tips) instead. We covered the back in faux boxwood greenery to give it a look like it is against a vertical hedge, and it looks wonderful. Our final product looks great, but I wouldn't go to the trouble of putting it together if I had to get a new one. Make $100 investment in a slightly more expensive one.

Comments about Irregular Rustic Garden Potting Bench - Dark Brown:

The potting bench arrived in two boxes. It took 2 hours to assemble. I strongly recommend using using a cordless screwdriver. It would take twice as long to assemble otherwise. A couple of the pieces were broken. Likely in shipping. Fortunately I had the clamps and glue to repair these. A few holes had to be re-drilled and there were few screws missing.

It will overall make a good potting bench. The metal pan is welded stainless. The supplied hardware is substantial. The design includes an enclosed storage area and plenty of shelves. I was expecting a better fit and finish for the price but they do call it rustic.

              • It's A Potting Bench

Comments about Irregular Rustic Garden Potting Bench - Dark Brown:

              - Upon unpacking the potting bench pieces I noticed several scratches, gouges, or unstained sections of wood. There was one piece that had a section of wood that had split away and had to be glued back together.
              - During assembly I found most of the pre-drilled holes did not align correctly I had to drill new holes to facilitate the assembly process.
              - Other pre-drilled holes were at an angle that caused screws to split the wood and protrude.
              - A few of the pre-drilled holes for the screw sleeves were not large enough to accommodate the sleeve and I had to drill larger holes to allow the sleeve to be used.
              - While the inventory list of parts was reflective of what was sent, that list did not have enough screws to complete the assembly. There were no screws to attach the metal brace to the back of the shelves. 8 screws were required to complete that and 0 were included, not to mention that of the 8 pre-drilled holes for the brace had only 3 that were aligned correctly.
              - Because so much torque was required to fully insert some of the screws, 2 of the included hex wrenches suffered metal fatigue and twisted itself into an unusable tool. Why not just have the screws made with a phillips head design? That would make assembly much easier.
              - A couple of the boards were slightly warped which caused the dowels to not fit flush the boards they attach to.
              - The pre-installed magnets to hold the door closed were installed too far forward which prevented the door from closing flush to the front of the potting bench. I had to remove the magnets, drill new, properly positioned holes, and re-attach the magnets to allow the door to close properly.
              - All of the pieces had recessed holes for the screw heads to fit into except for the top of the shelving unit. Those screws protrude by the thickness of the screw head.
              - The assembly pictures (I cannot call them instructions) leave much to be desired.
I suppose the only reason we did not return the bench was we got to the point where to take everything apart and pack it up again would have been just as frustrating as completing the assembly. Bu the way, with all the extra aligning, drilling, detaching, re-attaching, measuring, and other tasks necessary to complete assembly, it took almost 5 hours to complete.
Are there any quality control processes in place for this product? If not there should be, and if so, they clearly need to be improved.
Let's just say that I am a very unhappy, unsatisfied customer.
