Before I bought this product, I read other people's reviews of it. I was somewhat surprised to see that one reviewer liked the table, but thought it was "difficult to assemble," while another reviewer listed "easy to assemble" as one of the tables attributes. Having just finished putting the thing together, I think I can now resolve the conflict: This table is not inherently difficult to assemble, but the assembly directions are absolutely atrocious! One of the MINOR deficiencies in the directions is that they make no mention of tools you will need. And you will need a couple of tools. At a minimum, you'll need your own pair of pliers and a phillips-head screwdriver. If you have a small metric socket set instead of pliers, that would be better. The only tool supplied is an allen wrench that really doesn't fit the bolts all that well. Though the problem is really more with the bolts themselves than with the wrench: The socket just isn't deep enough, so the wrench is constantly falling out of it. It also irritates me, on general principle, to have to do this much assembly on a product I'm paying this much money for[...] If fact, absolutely NO preassembly has been done--you will put in every bolt and screw. I don't buy this sort of thing on line because it's cheaper; I buy it on line because it just isn't available locally. So let's just say I was not AT ALL happy with the assembly hassle. Having said that... the table, once assembled, seems very nice. If [*] every figure out how to write assembly directions, they may really be in business.

Comments about Safco Adjustable Split-Level Drafting Table:
Bought this for my high school daughter, an artist who wanted a versatile place to draw/paint and do homework. After purchasing and returning a different drafting table from a local store, which was flimsy, we happened upon this table, which is perfect for her needs.
Love the fact that there is a stationary side to the table, as well as the higher ledge. The adjustable part is easy to use, and smooth to operate.
Very sturdy. Is it the most beautiful piece of furniture? No. Does it do its intended job well, for a decent price? Absolutely. I highly recommend it.

Comments about Safco Adjustable Split-Level Drafting Table:
this thing's bigger than i expected, but that's what i get for reading "adjustable height up to 37" and stopping short of its fatness (31" deep). this is a solid piece of equipment, homely and sturdy like how old-fashioned parents want their children to marry. the assembly instructions are easy if you're ok with good quality blueprints. you'll need a phillips screwdriver and, surprise, a box wrench or similar. you might also want a medium-sized nail (larger than a picture brad) in case you need to enlarge a few screw holes like i did. i'm teeny and the freight invoice said 75lbs, but it was no problem to piece together quickly alone. have fun.
