Description

The Mountain Slalom Steerable Toboggan gives everyone a thrilling ride down the mountain. The Slalom is made of beautifully molded plywood, and features full-pivot steering, slippery plastic runners, and stainless steel hardware. Made with 0.625-inch marine-grade waterproof molded plywood, the entire front section of the Slalom pivots. The sled's wide stance makes it very stable and gives it excellent flotation in powder snow. On hard-packed snow, the Slalom slides along on specialized plastic runners for top speed and control. The toboggan's beechwood surface is protected by four coats of marine-grade finish. The Slalom has an extra-long pull rope as well. For added speed, try waxing the bottom of the toboggan. The Slalom seats two adults or three children. For children 3 years and up. You also have to option to hand-engrave your child's name right onto the sled. Lettering is 2 inches tall and runs lengthwise up the center of the sled. Weight capacity: 300 pounds. Recommended for children ages 5-14 years. Dimensions: 52L x 18W x 5H inches.

About Mountain Boy Sledworks
Mountain Boy Sleds are designed in Silverton, Colorado and tested all over the US. They are made to last with beautiful wood, hand-carved willow, and stainless-steel hardware. Performance is excellent, with many steerable sled models, cozy pull sleds, and big new toboggans.

  • The company focuses on safety and on minimizing its environmental impact.
  • All of their sleds are tested by an independent agency to ensure that they meet all child safety standards, and that there is no lead in the sled's finishes.
  • They use only recycled cardboard packaging.
  • They choose fast-growing, common, sustainable hardwoods such as birch, willow and maple.
  • Mountain Boy makes sleds that are highly durable, so they won't need frequent replacement.

Lug Factor
An important aspect to consider when shopping for the right sled, lug factor refers to the amount of effort required to lug the sled back to the top of the hill for the next ride.

    • Easy
These sleds have a negligible weight and are easily pulled behind the rider on the journey to the top.

    • Moderate
Sleds with moderate lug factor are middleweight sleds that require some light effort to pull or carry up the hill.

  • Heavy
Heavy lug factor means the sled will require some effort to be pulled up the hill. Parents or supervisors of younger sledders should be prepared to assist with lugging these sleds after a few rides.

Control Level
Control level refers to a sled's steering and braking capabilities. Some sleds have none, one, or both. Though virtually all sleds can be controlled by shifting the body's weight from side to side, steering and breaking mechanisms offer greater control and safety.

    • Low
Low-control sleds offer a fun, freewheeling ride with little or no steering mechanism. These sleds are intended for use in open areas free from obstacles like trees and fences.

    • Medium
Medium-control sleds offer steering and/or braking mechanisms that give the rider some control over directional movement and speed. These sleds are great for backyards and city parks.

  • High
Sleds with high control levels feature sophisticated steering and/or braking mechanisms for precise direction and speed control. These sleds are ideal for high-traffic terrain or hills with obstacles.

Comments about Mountain Boy Mountain Slalom Steerable Toboggan:

This is a handsome sled and easy to assemble IF the drill holes on the stearing yolk are spaced correctly. Mine were not, hence I could not get all the bolts in place properly. Also, the stearing yolk is made of wood (should be some kind of flexible man-made material that won't split) and SNAPPED/BROKE on both sides on our first outing of the season! Very disappointing! The sled should be durable enough to steer w/ your feet-- without breaking it! A larger sized adult (200 + lbs) could probably crack/split the sled itself. On a positive note, the sled is quick and fun to ride; can fit 2 kids and an adult. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this product because of the design flaws; just not durable enough for an active day of sledding...
