Comments about Spalding "The Beast" Glass Portable Basketball Hoop System:

This is our second spalding goal to purchase. Our first broke only after a few months. Base cracked without our knowledge and system fell over cracking the backboard. The base is made so much better so we have less fear of the base cracking. What was great for purchasing. No sales tax and no shipping charges. Saves you several hundred dollars. It took 2 of us, husband and wife about 3 1/2- 4 hours to setup. Only had the product a couple of weeks but so far we have nothing to complain about. It is well worth spending a little extra for a quality product. Purchasing through Hayneedle made it great once again because of no delivery charge or sales tax charge.

Comments about Spalding "The Beast" Glass Portable Basketball Hoop System:

The Beast has been a great purchase. Like many other buyers, we were somewhat hesitant to buy, due to the cost. However, after setting it up, it is worth it. We intend for this hoop to last years and I belive it will. We live in the Northwest, so it has to stand up to rain, cold and some high temperatures. Overall construction is quite good, particularly compared to other portable systems. The ability to move the hoop is absolutely great. Overall, I gave it a 4 out of 5. The only drawback is that the backboard moves a little more than I would like, but I am comparing it to an inground, since it is somewhat comparable in price. I would not shy away from this system because of that reason. I would in fact recommend this hoop to anyone who wants a portable, it is simply the best portable system I've seen and the best I have played on.There are many other reviews and comments on the setup. Here is the bottom line on the setup. I am somewhat of a do it yourself guy. I have a 1967 Camaro I've restored myself, I can do many standard fixes myself and don't shy away from it. If you're one of these guys, you won't have a problem. Here are the two fine points you need to understand before you decide to set the hoop up or have someone do it for you. I did mine by myself and it took me about 5-6 hours. Here are the two points.1) If you are a "do it yourselfer" you can do this. Your average guy may shy away, if you don't have tools, aren't "setup" kind of guy. However, if you do not follow instructions, you may consider not doing this hoop. Many guys are not detailed enough to follow instructions. If you are not patient and will not read the instructions, I'd recommend that you consider not doing this yourself. The instructions are exceptional, very good, but they have to be followed. I read each step two or three times to make sure I had it right. For any review out there who says differently, I'd challenge whether or not they really read the instructions.2) This is important. If you do put together the hoop, you have to put together two posts, one is inserted into the other. You have to apply a fair amount of force to get the one post at least 4 inches in the other post. Here is the key. You have to lift the entire post at least 5 feet off of the ground and drop it on concrete onto a piece of plywood or a board to force one end into the other. Eventually, it will go in, it just takes heigth/force to get the two posts together. Make sure to measure first, so you know how far you do have to go to get the posts inserted to meet the 4 inch minimum. It can be done, be prepared to go high (I used a tall ladder, garage roof height, lifted it while I was on the ladder and dropped the two posts together several times, then they went together the entire 4 inches - a neighbor or friend would really help in this step, several feet up, dropping the posts. Ignore other reviews, I did this myself. The overall quality is good, instructions, etc. The front plastic cover has to be "coerced" into the holes. Use a phillips screw drive to hold the plastic plate, lining it up to the holes as you put in the other bolts in. [...]Overall, a great product, well built, best portable, excellent instructions and [...]. Again, a decent "doit yourselfer" can do it, take your time, read the instructions. It is very doable, expect 4-6 hours total.Good luck!

Comments about Spalding "The Beast" Glass Portable Basketball Hoop System:

We use it at home and the installation was difficult and the bolt hole alllignment was not very good. The holes should have the paint cleaned off [...] so the bolts fit. It was an expensive unit, and should be perfect. [...] Once assembled, it is a good sturdy unit.

Comments about Spalding "The Beast" Glass Portable Basketball Hoop System:

It's not easy or hard to assemble. Right about the middle. It's very sturdy and height adjustments are very easy. Just a simple hand crank. Only complaint was that the first thing the directions say to do is to line up the "rear" sticker on the post assembly (the post comes in two pieces). This is critcal because once the two pieces are together, they are not coming apart. My product was mislabeled on one piece. The "rear" sticker was on the wrong side! I noticed it by sheer luck and narrowly avoided putting them together backwards which would have ended the installation process at step 1! So double-check your stickers and you'll love this product.
