This bin solved our gross and stinky kitchen compost issues. It's awesome look and great filter keeps the smells and looks from deterring my compost plans! Easy to dishwash! I purchased the biodegradable bags with it. I have to place a rubber band around the bin to keep the bags from sliding, but they help carry the compost to the outdoor bin, so it is worth having them. Another note on the bags: they break down quickly, so do not let your compost sit on the for long! I am thrilled we got this bin!

This is one of the strangest items I have ever had to "diss." I mean, what's not to like about a nice looking compost bin? It is obvious that an incredible amount of work went into its fabrication, and it will probably do a fine job of allowing compostables to sit on our counter before leaving for the outdoor bin. It looks good, appears functional and there IS a lot to like about this compost bin. But the bin's lid and its inset carbon filter leave a lot to be desired. The bin's arrival, in the inadequately-protective cardboard box, did not bode well. But it survived its journey with only the slightest of dents. No harm, no foul, we said... And you wouldn't think an item like this would actually require an operator's manual, but what to do about the bin's lid? It was clear there was a carbon filter in there, but no written explanation about how to open it up to service the thing. The filter assembly turned out to be tightly jammed into the outer lid, and it was not clear it even came apart. But once it was taken apart, the actual carbon filter housing presented its own set of mysteries, mostly involving what appear to be questionable tack welds. All of the aforementioned could be forgiven if, after its initial disassembly, the inner carbon filter would want to STAY attached to the lid that is removed every time the bin is used. It doesn't. But, after looking around at other similar compost bins, we have reluctantly decide to hold on to this thing and try to make it work. The application of several pieces of masking tape seem to be able to secure the inner carbon filter assembly to the outer lid and we should be able to use this thing successfully. But what a drag that it all comes down to this: having to repair a brand new something to even begin to think about using it. This one has really earned its "Needs That Special Something" overall rating...

      • Lid Comes Apart When Usin

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Crock:

I got a replacement as the first one's lid didn't fit properly. The second one has the same problem: when one lifts the lid to deposit scraps, it comes apart. It is also not stainless stell---it has black spots that don't clean off---it's about five months old.

Comments about Stainless Steel Compost Crock:

I love the container, but the first one had a badly dented lid (on the inside). The cover and insert kept coming apart; I thought it was due to the dent. My replacement lid does the same thing, sans dent. It was not even a month old when it began to come apart each time I lifted the lid to insert some new compostable item. Very annoying!
