Description
The efficient artist will appreciate the Studio Designs Glass Top Futura Drafting Table. Constructed of durable heavy gauge steel, this sleek, contemporary-style craft/drafting table features a tempered blue safety glass work surface, which measures 38W x 24D inches. The surface tilts at an angle of up to 35 degrees for comfort while working. Simply add a light source beneath the glass work surface, and you've got yourself a tracing table as well.This table is also compatible with parallel bars (not included) up to 36 inches in length.
This table also includes three plastic molded slide-out drawers ideal for storage, as well as a 28L x 9.5W-inch pencil drawer and a 24-inch slide-up pencil ledge that keeps tools from rolling away. Four floor levelers let you create a stable, even work surface, even on uneven flooring. This table measures 43W x 24D x 31.5H inches and requires some assembly.

I like the contemporary styling of this drafting table. The table itself is solidly constructed and lightweight enough to move around. I also like the drawers, the various tool/paint holders, and the glass top which can be backlighted for tracing. As for putting it together, I needed initial help to get the frame in place (it's a bit like juggling balls without getting someone to brace a leg or two), but all the rest is a one-person operation. That said, it's tricky in a few places (e.g. the braces that hold the side tool-holder and snapping plastic parts together). Some of the part numbers of the packaged nuts, screws, bolts were switched around by accident. Also, there are extra hole drillings that are not used for this model, so that may be confusing to some as well. Nevertheless, it gets my thumbs up and I actually enjoyed constructing it.

I purchased this table to replace one that wobbled and would not keep it's angle for drawing. I chose this one specifically because of the unusually great amount of drawing tool storage. Putting it together was a bit of a nightmare. The illustration in the directions was unclear to say the least. Directions were confusing. One hole was not drilled enough and had to be fixed...and another was not in the correct spot. I had to run out to purchase metal drill bits[...]AFTER all of that once I had it put together it seems fabulous as expected. I would recommend this to a friend ONLY if they were handy enough to overcome the obstacles ....and would tell them to have metal drill bits on hand. It's a shame really that Studio Designs came up with such an otherwise great product and dropped the ball on the design of the directions....and the quality control of the pre-drilled holes.

I love the glass top, the sturdiness, the size, the convenience.
For assembly, I'm glad the website offers the video because the printed instructions that came in the package were unintelligible. I've never seen such messy assembly drawings. So thank goodness for the video.
But I wish the man in the video, before attaching a part, showed us which side was face up. I bolted parts to the frame a couple of times, then realized they were facing the wrong direction and had to redo.
Beware the assembly of the runners for the long metal drawer, especially part 23. I needed pliers and a screwdriver and basically had to hold the last screw into place with the pliers, through a hole in the steel, while turning the screwdriver with the other hand. It took about 20 minutes of trying before I got it right. Curiously the video skips over the difficulty with that last screw. Just be ready for it, by having real pliers handy, and be patient. It can be done.
I never did figure out how to assemble the three plastic drawers, but I'm not using them anyway. Someone who wants to use them, however, may have the same trouble I did.

The Glass Top Futura is a beautiful addition to my studio. The design is great and it was easy to assemble once I got past step 5. The illustration showing where to install the pencil tray side support (9) took a few minutes to figure out. Once I got that, the rest was a snap. Great quality, price and sturdy to boot. Thanks! I really like the desk though as the paper I normally work with is 22x30 I wish the workspace was slightly bigger. Also because I will be using this desk as a tracing table I wish the lever to raise the glass surface was on the side instead of right in the middle of the glass. But I do love all the storage options and I think it's a beautiful desk.
