About Cape May Box Co.
David Descalzi started Cape May Box Co. in 1999 with a simple goal: to build products people could put their lives in. Cape May Box Co. produces high-quality Eastern white cedar deck boxes, often customized in size and use. Storage benches, cedar cushion boxes, and refuse containers are all part of the lineup. Eastern white cedar is long-lasting and naturally rot-resistant; Cape May Box Co. leaves it unfinished for natural weathering or home-finishing. The result is some of the most affordable, well-built indoor and outdoor storage on the market, all 100 percent guaranteed.

The supplied bottom panel was made of rough plywood. Two of the corners were broken and there were six large holes drilled in it. I found it necessary to replace the panel with a sheet of 1/2" birch at a cost of about [$]. When finished the chest looked great and I was pleased with the results. The bottom panel was not in keeping with the quality of the rest of the unit.

[...] I've put together many pieces of furniture all by myself and yup, I'm a girl.I like the chest now that it's put together but here are the comments on assembly:1) Number of screws does not match the number of holes - side assembly has 16 holes, 18 screws included. Bottom assembly has 12 holes, 16 screws included, and the hinge has 12 holes (which do not line up with the pre-drilled holes) and 9 screws included. SO there are holes in the hinges with no screws at all. I could have lined up the hinge with the predrilled holes if I hadn't wanted the top of the chest to close (it would have ben off center) - either it's poorly designed or the holes are in the wrong place.2) No diagram. It's not rocket science but if you're labeling pieces A, B, C etc. it would make sense to have a diagram showing those parts.3) The bottom cannot be put in place once the sides are put together - contrary to the directions given. Had to undo and redo one of the sides to get the bottom in place. Now that it's assembled (minus a few screws in back where the hinge attaches but it's still pretty sturdy) - I like the chest, it holds a lot of storage and seems fairly sturdy.

Comments about Cape May Unfinished 4 Foot Cedar Chest:
You expect some work to be needed with an unfinished product but this required a complete re build. The manufacturer had been extreemly economical not only with the length of the staples holding it together but also with the glue plus it was made from two different woods, red cedar for the front and the rest was, I assume, white cedar although it was not at all aromatic. It looked nothing at all like the picture.
The only plus was the customer service for the return from Hayneedle which was excellant.

Comments about Cape May Unfinished 4 Foot Cedar Chest:
If you are looking for a true Cedar Chest, this is NOT for you. Only the top lid has cedar on the bottom.
The wood is solid and after figuring out which piece goes where b/c there were no instructions it wasn't to difficult to assemble.

Comments about Cape May Unfinished 4 Foot Cedar Chest:
I wouldn't call this a Cedar Chest as only the top lid has cedar on it. So if you are looking for a real cedar chest, this is not for you. There is no straight beam that goes across the lid like in the picture. I think that's why you shouldn't sit on it, the top will creek and buckle. It's a decent size inside for the clothes we want to store in it.
There were no instructions so after figuring which side was which it wasn't to bad to put together.
Service and delivery comments:
It was delivered on the date specified by UPS. CAme shrink wrapped and bubble wrapped with styrofoam padding.
