Comments about Vanguard Spirit ED 8x36 Binoculars:

I chose these binoculars because they are mid-size, lightweight, and have an excellent field of view. I have used them now for about 2 months and I am pleased overall. I have carried and used them with a bino-harness all day and I didn't ever feel like they were too heavy or burdensome.

The focus wheel goes from close-focus to infinity in about 3/4 of a turn, and that can make it difficult to resolve fine details in some situations. I have also found the depth of field to be lacking in some situations and some noticeable chromatic aberration when viewing very high contract objects.

I love the objective lens covers and the case they came with - everything feels like very good quality. My only concern with the construction has been that the rubber surrounding one of the eyepieces has begun to peel back a little bit which may be because it feels difficult to remove the cover for that one. I can push the rubber back into place, but it is a little annoying. However, I do love the soft rubber around the eyepieces because it is very comfortable.

Comments about Vanguard Spirit ED 8x36 Binoculars:

I'm very satisfied with these Vanguard ED 8x36. THey bring in more light than expected for the 36 objective lens; although 42mm is brighter it's not by much. But most importantly, the sharpness of the focus is immediately noticable. I have 8x42 binoculars without the ED or equivelent lenses that are lower price/quality, and believe me, the difference is large. The price is in the moderate range, the compact size is ideal for a small backpack, the feel in your hands is solid...in total they are an excellent pair of binocs. My only head scratcher is there is one strap for the binos and case; you switch back and forth. Needs some getting use to I guess. Otherwise, buy them.

These binoculars are very solidly built with good quality optics. Unfortunately I have a hard time getting a real sharp focus.
