Measured physical dimensions in inches are:

Maximum outside diameter: 2.250"

Outside diameter of eyepiece end: 1.495" (grippy area)

My first impression of the Zhumell 10-25x 42 monocular is favorable. Optical clarity it's not anything special as sport optics go but the optical clarity is functional and at current market prices this scope is priced about right at U.S. $50-60. This is a very powerful little monocular that's perfect for those harsh environments where you don't want to put more expensive optics at risk. As a reference to optical quality, I was able to read a car's license plate number at a measured 275 yards. I was also able to read the print on my drivers license at 40 feet.
The objective lens optical coating is actually blue/green rather than the red shown in the promotional photo's. Colors as seen through the monocular appear correct. The focus and zoom adjustments are stiff enough to hold their settings. The focus adjustment moves smoothly but adjusting best focus at higher magnification takes patience. The rubberized outer coating feels secure in your hands. The monocular is equipped with a metal ¼ -20 threaded hole for securing it to a camera tripod or monopod. Close focus distance at 25x is less than 3 feet. Eye relief is comfortable for people who don't wear glasses but probably not fully functional for people who do wear glasses/sunglasses while looking through this monocular.

I had a romantic idea about monoculars - you know, the swarthy sea captain peering through the lens, "land ho!" and all that. I also thought these would be a lot smaller to pack and carry than binoculars. And they are, but the image is so less satisfying than binoculars. Also, at the upper magnification the viewing size is greatly reduced. Unless you only want to take a quick view for getting your bearings, stick to binoculars.

Comments about Zhumell 10-25x42 Waterproof Zoom Monocular:

I haven't tested this in the field yet, but upon getting it at home I tested the zoom and focus at the local park. With good light the optics are very nice and the zoom is what I expected. I'm not expert with optics such as these but it seems the viewing angle, when you place it against your eye socket, has to be just right to get the image. I was off slightly the first time I picked them up and could not see a thing throught them. I imagine a little more use of these and I'll barely even notice it.
When comparing to camera lenses the focus is a little soft, but given these are a fraction of the cost and weight I am not dissapointed. The focus only needed a very small tweek when moving from 10x to 25x - and that may be because of the slight softeness to the image.
The feel is sturdy and comfortable. I could hold it in one hand without problem, but you really need to use two hands to keep it steady at 25x - and not because of the weight.

Comments about Zhumell 10-25x42 Waterproof Zoom Monocular:

Size and weight of this zoom monocular make it much better than binoculars for carrying in airplane luggage for vacation trips, and for carrying it when hiking or touring on those trips. 42mm is about the smallest objective size that gives decent daytime illumination at 25x, field of view is very good (over 300 ft at 1000 yards over whole power range). Image quality seems quite good. Anti-reflective coatings look good for both objective and eyepiece lenses. Eye relief is decent at 10x (14mm), short but adequate (9mm) at 25x if you don't wear glasses. Focusing ring works well. Tripod or monopod mount also very good, you will need it at 25x. This appears to be the same monocular as the 10-25x 42mm monocular sold by Orion Telescopes, but the listed field of view specs are much better than the Orion model. Soft carrying case is decent. So, compared to those little 8x25 monoculars, the image quality is better, the field of view is much better, and there is a much brighter image, and you get a 10x - 25x zoom that is usable at the 25x end of the range. And, with a tripod mount, this becomes a decent small spotting scope.

Minuses: (1) included strap is a joke (so use a small keyring with separate lanyard of your own), (2) no lens caps (so pack it in a plastic baggie inside the case), (3) variable power adjustment is very stiff, and (4) the little bolt with eyelet for attaching a strap ring is plastic, but should be metal. Or, better yet, a separate metal strap anchor should be added on the side or top, and not use the tripod mount hole.

Comments about Zhumell 10-25x42 Waterproof Zoom Monocular:

My wife and I wanted this device for the times we travel in the local mountains. It is really handy when you want to identify objects in the distance ahead. We had carried 10x50 binoculars but they are bulky and difficult to use compared to this monocular. We also take a standard video camera monopod with us which screws right into the 1/4-20 thread on the monocular and it helps to steady the monocular when you zoom up to the higher power settings. Great product... we don't travel anywhere now without it.
