Product Summary

Study the heavens in startling detail with this Eclipse 114 telescope from Zhumell. The telescope features a large 114-mm aperture to allow for a significant amount of gathered light for viewing. It also has a built-in motor that can let you track moving objects. The motor also adjusts for the Earth's rotation, allowing you to lock onto an object and watch it move without having to make manual adjustments that lead to a jittery effect in the eyepiece. Set it up on a clear night, and you'll be able to view the moon, planets, and stars in awesome detail.

  • Easy to use, powerful telescope
  • Wide 114mm aperture for better light-gathering power
  • Integrated motor drive for automatic object tracking
  • Includes 3-year manufacturer's warranty

What's Included

Telescope, Tripod, 2 Eyepieces, Motor Drive, Accessory Tray

Description

A bestselling item by Zhumell, the Eclipse 114 Reflector Telescope with motor drive offers ample power for deep-sky viewing. It's also very easy to use, making it a perfect choice for the beginning astronomer, yet advanced enough for the more technically adept. With its 114mm aperture, this telescope gathers sufficient light for stunning lunar observation, detailed stargazing, and exciting planetary views.

Equipped with motor drive, this telescope automatically compensates for the rotation of the earth. That means once you locate your desired object, no further adjustments are required. The celestial object will remain in the eyepiece's field of view, without any of the vibrations associated with manual adjustments to disrupt your observation.

With its user-friendly equatorial mount, multi-coated optics for clear images, tripod, and clock motor drive, all at an unbeatable price, a beginning user truly can't go wrong with this telescope. There's even a full 3-year warranty from Zhumell to provide peace of mind.

I like this telescope, but the instruction manual as it came packaged with it was terrible in that it was a very poor photocopy of the manual. I recommend you download the manual from http://www.zhumell.com/manuals/Eclipse_user_guide.pdf and then you can copy the pictures with much better results to see how it goes together. Thsi is right from the manufacturers site. It was almost impossible to figure out how to mount the motor without the photo of the manual

I purchased this scope along with the Zhumell eyepiece kit as a supplement to an 8" dobsonian I own.

Pros:
It's definitely not made for deep space observation, but the planetary views this smaller aperture scope can serve up are spectacular. Jupiter is in a great position at this time and I can see plenty of detail with this scope and some decent eyepieces.

Cons:
First off, the included manual is outright _horrible_. Confusing assembly instructions and no collimation information at all would make this a nightmare to a beginner. The lack of collimation instructions is a real shame as mine came with very poor alignment (10 minutes with a laser collimator fixed it). The procedures for aligning the equatorial mount are not very helpful at all - I would recommend that a beginner google for tips on this.

Second, the optics are pretty poor. The included finder scope is more useless than just sighting down the barrel - I recommend just tossing it. Also, the eyepieces have very, very short eye relief (eyeglass wearers will be unhappy).

Comments about Zhumell Eclipse 114 with Motor Drive Reflector Telescope:

The telescope shipped on time and arrived on time but came with no instrutions. I was able to figure it out without them anyway, but if you're someone who requires those I hear that it has been a problem with this telescope. The Motor Drive is nearly impossible to get to work, the slot keeps slipping over the knob that it should be turning. It is a 4.5 inch aperture, so don't expect to see nebulae or a lot of the Messier objects. You can see the planets, make out Saturn's rings, and Jupiter's 4 big moons. Mars and Venus aren't really too much to look at though. The biggest fault with this is that the mount is so unstable which also made focusing a bit of a task. You can't touch the telescope without having your image fly all over the place. I'd recommend this as a starter if you have 150 dollars to spend on learning how to use a telescope. It serves as a great tool to learn where things are in the sky and how to find them wihtout a GOTO system. It was my first telescope and I'd say for what it is and what I was looking for, it served me well. But now I'm upgrading to a Celestron NexStar 8SE.

    Very Poor Motordrive

Comments about Zhumell Eclipse 114 with Motor Drive Reflector Telescope:

I purchased this telescope as I was getting back into astronomy primarily because it was a low cost option with a motor drive function. The optics work well enough if you plan on buying better eyepieces. However, the motor drive is terribly constructed. You'll be lucky if the gears inside the drive line up. The motor drive that came with my telescope would not the arm spring to the scope and turn the declination ring together. Unfortunately, I ended up over-tightening the arm spring to try and force a fit. lol, It stripped and now it's broken. This could all have been avoided if the manufacturer constructed the motor drive better.

Super fast shipping! We're beginners, but this product offers alot for the price. I did a good bit of research before buying. It's just a matter of learning how to use it.
