First off the first thing you will notice about this 6mm zhumell eyepiece if you are up grading from plossl is the shear size its is 3 times as tall as a 10mm. This is not a bad thing to me however bc it only reassures "me" that it's a well made eyepiece with awesome optics and it is. Now If your anything like me and want to see close up images of Jupiter, Saturn (and you have a similar telescope to mine F1650mm D130mm f/5) then you might want to think about getting am eyepiece that is a little bit stronger then the 6mm bc I wasn't able to get as close as I wanted to with the 6mm but I was still able to see very faintly the rings on Saturn and Jupiter's moons! And the picture was crystal clear just not close enough so ive already ordered the 3mm zhumell planetary eyepiece which should put me right where I want to be!

I have all of these eyepieces except the 3 mm , they are real nice oculars, and especially for the price. This review is for the 18mm. It is not parfocal with the others,it has a shorter eye relief, and it is not sharp to the edge like the others. I am VERY pleased with the rest of the series, but the 18mm is different.

Comments about Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces:

I'll give you the long story short introduction. I am the very essence of what it is to be an amateur astronomer. After what one could call an excess of reading and watching reviews I finally decided that this would be an appropriate model to start with expanding my eyepiece collection.

After careful deliberation I purchased a 6mm model. As of this writing I've only had the eyepiece a few days to play around. I greatly like the feeling of it in my hand and compared to the stock eyepieces that came with my cheapie toy Celestron telescope it was a substantial step up. I loved the image I could get out of it and was able to make out some minor details in Jupiter's atmosphere. Still no great red spot, but it doesn't look like one monochromatic blob anymore.

The only real drawback I can think of is its weight. It has a tendency to weigh down the back end of my telescope. I've learned how delicate and important precision is when viewing objects so far away. Factoring in Earth's rotation at such a power it doesn't take long before the object is gone from your view. If you go to make a note or get a filter then you can expect to have to reallign when you get back. Frequently.

I imagine a very strong and sturdy tripod (something I don't have) is a real asset when using an eyepiece like this. Otherwise your patience will probably be tested with frequent reallignments.

Overall it's a great eyepiece, especially for the price tag. It's solid and very comfortable to look through. Even sitting here in my office I want to sit around and look at my walls through it just because I can. If you're looking for an upgrade, but don't want to break the bank, you would do yourself a service to consider this model along the way.

It gets my highly coveted seal of approval. I have plans of buying other powers of Zhumell's Z series.

Comments about Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces:

I am very pleased with the 6mm Zhumell Planetary Eyepiece. I always enjoy inviting family and neighbors to view planetary targets like Jupiter, Saturn, and Mars. In the past, guests have struggled with brightness and eye relief with traditional eyepieces, but not with my new Zhumell Planetary Eyepiece.

Comments about Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces:

Received the eyepieces (5mm,9mm, and 14.5mm) in a timely manner and in perfect condition. Have not had a chance to use them; but, appear to be very high quality- especially considering the very reasonable price. I will update this after the weather improves and I can use them. Too large diameter to be used with my Orion "steady Pix" Pro camera adapter (5mm eyepiece).

Comments about Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces:

The 3mm Zhumell Z series eyepiece works good at 150x in my f/4 Starblast 4.5 inch reflector. The generous 55 degree AFOV is great! I was able to see M82 and SN2014J on a clear night. The housing is made of durable lightweight Aluminum. But 150x magnification is too high for the crummy seeing conditions in my backyard on most nights. Jupiter's bands look washed out over 125x for example. The 5mm Zhumell Z series eyepiece at 90x magnification would have been a better match for my scope and seeing conditions. Also, the 3mm Zhumell Z series eyepiece is longer and bulkier than the others. I probably should have gone with the 5mm or 6mm versions instead.

      4 Questions About This Product
Q: "Will they accept standard screw in 1.25 inch filters?"
A: Yes, the Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces will accept  1.25 inch filters.
Q: "On these Eyepieces, will the lower power ( 18MM ) work with Deep sky objects? Or are they just designed for planets and the moon?"
A: To best view deep space objects with detail, you will likely need to use an eyepiece that is 12mm or less.
Q: "I bought a Celestron Astromaster 114 from you which I received this week. What is the maximum magnification I can use?"
A: The max. magnification of the Celestron Astromaster 114 is 200x. With a 5mm eyepiece you'll get a magnification of exactly 200x.
Q: "Are these eyepieces fully multicoated, or just multicoated on critical surfaces?"
A: The Zhumell Z Series Planetary Telescope Eyepieces are fully multi-coated.
