High-Tech Device
At the stabilizer's heart are vertical and horizontal gyroscopes that detect motion in any direction. In effect, the light refraction is altered so the image always is viewable, even when hands are less than steady.

I have four astro telescopes up to 10 inch. These binoculars are such a delight for scanning the sky. I have had them for only a few weeks, but I am in love with them. Very convenient and wonderfully designed. My history with Canon products goes back nearly fifty years. I continue to be pleased with the quality and innovation. I am getting older, and I cannot hold binoculars as steady as I could years ago. Now it is a delight to get a steady image, which certainly increases the "effective" magnification and the pleasure of viewing!

These are ok if you are on a budget. If you can spend a few hundred more, i recommend a more powerful magnification 12 at a minimum

I have a pair of Canon Image Stabilizer 10X30 binoculars. They were wonderful until a few years later they have now become a stickey black goopy mess. They are so bad that I can no longer use them which is a big disapointment to me. I will never purchase Canon again after this experience!

Stabilization enables viewing Saturn's moons, Andromeda galaxy, and other heavenly objects that normal shake prevented.
Birding allows seeing details on the birds that were not discernible with normal Binocs, for example white-winged crossbills, pine siskins, etc.
