I had some folding bookcases around the house that I had purchased years ago in a local furniture store. On a whim I decided to check out Hayneedle. They had exactly what I was looking for and this item was very similar to my other bookcases.

Good, solid wood. Nice, even, dark finish. Two issues, but neither is that big of a deal for me:
1) When you receive the shelf, you need to do some minor assembly. One side has the pegs for the fold-down shelves already screwed in, but you have to screw in the pegs on the other side. On my shelf, the pre-marked holes were off by about a half inch. Thankfully it was a half inch too low, and I'm not putting anything particularly heavy on the shelves, so not that big of a deal to me. Also, you need to attach the pivot pegs to the top shelf (the pegs that attach the shelf to the frame). You do this by attaching one bracket to the shelf with screws, then putting that in the frame and lining up the second peg in the hole before attaching it to the shelf itself. The fit was really, really tight, so this was challenging. I got it done though, and the shelf is no worse for the wear so not that big of a deal.
2) The bottom of the shelf didn't line up perfectly so I had to shim one corner so that it didn't wobble on my wood floors. Again, really not uncommon with shelves and not that big of a deal.
Overall this shelf is what you would expect it to be, if not a little better. It's heavier than I was expecting, and I'm pleased with the quality. It works perfectly for fitting into a small space, and I think if the pegs were lined up appropriately it could hold quite a lot of weight.

This is a great bookcase for small spaces like useless corner spaces in small apartments. Easy to assemble and sturdy. Well finished and good value for the price. Wood used was reasonable and the only drawback was that some assembly was required.

Great design, easy assembly, sturdy. Finish is acceptable, and matches our piano, but on close inspection, blemishes and transit damage are visible.
