Previously I purchased a 95 watt ice eliminator, which caused 1 gallon of water evaporation in about 12 hours. I had to add water to my birdbath twice a day. There is very little evaporation with this model. This ice eliminator is great! It was 0-degrees recently and there was still open water in my birdbath.

I bought the ice preventer to keep the water in the birdbath from freezing in winter. Well, it's barely winter and the water has had a crust of ice on it most of the time. I'm extremely disappointed and the birds are too.

This heater has kept my birdbath with open water for the wild birds. I have even seen them taking a bath in our Chicago winters. Been pretty cold here and there is always melted ice in my bath.Great product..Have it right outside my kitchen window..

Comments about Backyard Nature Products 50 watt Bird Bath Ice Eliminator:
Once it arrived, I couldn't wait to place the birdbath ice eliminator in a birdbath, in the garden next to my kitchen. I simply ran an outdoor extension cord from the shed to the place I wanted to use it, plugged the ice eliminator in and set it in the middle of the birdbath. It immediately began thawing the ice around it and within a few days, the birds were stopping by for a drink. I have even seen some take a bath on a sunny but very cold day. The pleasure I have watching the birds helps to cheer me during the long winter months.

Comments about Backyard Nature Products 50 watt Bird Bath Ice Eliminator:
We thought the river in our back yard would give the birds plenty to drink, but this summer we moved our bird bath to the back deck and they used it all the time to drink. They can continue to do so with the bird bath heater. With the seed, suet and water, they entertain us all day long.
