It took several minutes to get the focusing down to where it was clear - but needs changing frequency if your distance to target changes frequenty. (if target stays within a few feet of your focal point, you'll do fine) The dark night was enhanced significantly and even more so with the IR light. My biggest 'disappointment' was a narrow field of vision that was enhanced; total width was probably about 6 feet at a distance of about 30-40 feet 'downrange'. If you decide to buy, be AWARE of the rail system may require an adapter and adding 3.2 pounds to your rifle is significant. But it brightens a dark night nicely.

The Paladin must be close to the ultimate in performance of any generation 1 scope on the market. The scope is used by me for security and the control of Jackal and stray dogs on an 8 hectare smallholding. Clarity and crisp image, leaves the scopes that I have compared, way behind. Coupled with the strong focusable infra- red beam, anything bigger than a bunny rabit, can easily be identified and shot at distances up to 120 metres, in total darkness. The only negatives are the setting button for the crosshair brightness - it self adjust with the recoil, and the focussing ring for the eyepiece, if bumped or turned a little too hard, can become loose. I have mine mounted on a M1 Garand rifle. The optics on this machine is something to be desired. I can only imagine what the Crusader in Generation 2 must be like!
