Glad to have this. I'm new to astronomy and it takes me awhile at the star chart to get oriented so this was a must have for me. The rheostat control is nice as I can set it to what light level I need and it is bright enough to find dropped lens covers etc at max without hurting my night vision.

Not bad but could be better
I ordered this flashlight to use while observing with my Orion XT12G Dobsonian telescope.
The red-led works great and is very useful when reading star charts or changing eye-pieces, etc.

I ordered this flashlight to use while observing with my Orion XT12G Dobsonian telescope.
The red-led works great and is very useful when reading star charts or changing eye-pieces, etc.
My only gripe is the lack of an on/off switch. Instead, you must dial it up with the brightness dial. Since I usually use it at high power I have to continually spin the dial several revolutions to turn it all the way on or off.
Other than that, it's great.

I generaly like Celestron products and this light is really good for "dark sides" and star parties. But even my feeling for Celestron products, I have to admit that quality is cheap, maybe very cheap. But it's non expensive (cheap..lol) and works as it should!!

During a recent family starparty the lens assembly fell or broke off. I had the original 'Rigel' version of this torch and upon receiving this one you could tell it's quality had been shaved down. Yes, it's much cheaper but it you are going to sell something to this crowd it had better hold up more than a few days.
