The powertank has very nice features, such as a compartment for carrying the ac adapters and the 12V auto adapter, and a very nice am/fm radio. Recharging is very simple, since it has a built-in auto shutoff. The only cons is that it is a heavy unit, and I wish Celestron had included a padded shoulder strap as an accesory. The built-in red flashlight/flasher does have a cool cable-winding mechanism, so you can pull it out independently of the the unit. However, it is a tad too bright for astronomical use, and I had to tame mine with a "dimmer" that I built from a paper bag.
I recently had to use it as a seachlight during a tornado outbreak in TN, and it was like turning on a miniature sun. That feature, plus the built-in horn and auto jumper cables makes it a far more useful unit than just a "field telescope power supply"

I purchased this power pak during Michigans Off season for star gazing, so I left it on the charger.
When I went to use the New Scope I ended up plugging directly to the truck because this thing was dead.
It won't charge. When I first got it home and charged up it did work, I like the light, and radio was okay, nice carry handle. Great Idea poor quality.

Comments about Power Tank 17 12v Power Supply 17 Amp Hour for any Celestron Computerized Telescope:
If you are in need of an AM/FM radio or a flashing red light this is what you need. I have bought 2 of them and I have 2 different scopes one is an slt 130 and the other is a cpc 8 inch. These units are not at all capable of operating either. Every once in awhile I can get 15 to 30 minutes of operation out of them but that is not at all common. I have called celestron and been told that they are completely adequate, however in real world applications they do not work. The power level is so low that the telescope barely even moves at first and then quits altogether. You must have an AC power source available to operate one of these scopes. I have had them for almost a year and have never been able to get them to power the telescopes. Wish I hadn't wasted the money.

Comments about Power Tank 17 12v Power Supply 17 Amp Hour for any Celestron Computerized Telescope:
Nifty item, was fully charged right out of box. 4 stars only because I could see room for improvment with an aux input to the speaker. Very bright, lasts longer than I can outside in the cold. Will probably buy another as a gift idea in the future.
