First, be sure to follow the instructions, because the photo provided by Char-Griller of the side box attached to the grill is not representative of the final installation when the instructions are followed, i.e. the instructions state that the "football" size plate must be removed from the larger grill, but the company photo shows the damper still attached to the main grill.
The cast iron grilling surface makes a big difference in the way meat is cooked and smoked when compare to simple steel grates.
This set up makes cooking for a large group much easier, and at the same time the side box is a perfect fit for when there's two to four folks.
Lastly, the engineering of this grill is superb, the quality of workmanship is excellent, and it performs as a Texas style smoker/grill should.

We have only used the product once, however, the paint melted off the top right away, and now has chipped off and is down to metal. A little disappointing since it was a gift to my husband. For an outside grill, i hope the rust doesnt come too fast.

I have had my grill for over 5 years. It is what it is... A darn good grill. In the South, barrel type grills are used everywhere.
This grill cooks in a similar fashion to the old style barrel grill.... that is you have to learn how to cook on one.
I have added on with an outside firebox for smoking some really killer BBQ. The OSB took me about 15- 20 minutes to install following the directions. If you have any mechanical ability and a good drill, it is very simple. You may have read reviews on the Amazing Ribs website or others that don't favor the outside firebox. I've got news for them. If you know your grill and have learned how to cook on it, this grill will make some of the best BBQ you ever put in your mouth. In other words, just because you can't cook, don't blame the grill.
Another thing I like about this grill is cooking steaks when I have a crowd. There is room enough for baked potatoes and corn on the cob.(I cook'em on the warming rack.)
I have been very happy with this grill with pork, beef, and chicken. It will give your BBQ a flavor as good or better than any BBQ place you would eat at. Just be sure to follow the directions include with the grill and the OSB for cooking meat the first time. As you get to know your grill, you will get better and better at it. I also want to add a word about the thermostat that people think is "so important." The folks that used an original barrel grill didn't use one. If you need to check the temperature of your meat, then by all means buy a meat thermometor and check it. I check it by pulling some samples off the meat and looking at 'em ( that's the way we do it in the South.)
Also, if you need any spare parts for your grill, the folks at Chargriller.com treat you great when you call in, and can answer just about any question you have about your grill. Their customer service is one of the best in the industry IMHO.

you can get a comparable product at half the price at a local discount store that is a better product,your product was deceiving! i will not deal with company again!!
