My first compost was ready about 6 or 7 weeks after I started it. I suspect that the next batch will be ready a bit faster, as the temperature is increasing. I added a bit of the compost to my avocado plants and they perked up considerably. It is important to get the mix of compost and other soil right, as not all plants can handle the potency of the compost. I planted basil and might have used too high a ratio of compost. Overall it is a wonderful process to recycle kitchen and garden waste into compost.
