Versatile. I am able to use this product both indoors (without a net) and outdoors because of the various types of baseballs available for this machine. Mother Nature will not cancel practices this year.
Pros
- Real baseballs Real fun
Cons
- Wildly inaccurate
Best Uses
As soon as you open the box, the documentation disclaimers start flowing - real baseballs will be inaccurate, and they lay the blame squarely at the feet of non-uniform baseballs. Correctable, of course, by purchasing the yellow Heater balls (one is included). Beware: Documentation also demonizes pleather balls.
Using a brand new set of very new, very uniform, very leather, and very clean baseballs, accuracy still leaves much to be desired. The speed, while diminished by using real baseballs, is a non issue. For best results, rev it up, use at shorter distances, and feed by hand as a 4-seamer. Observed max drift at max speed, 40ft, 8" horizontal 10" vertical, really paints those corners at random. Will issue walks occasionally.
Machine is surprisingly light. The legs, surprisingly heavy. Sturdy, not even a hint of overheating. Bring a tool to properly tighten the vertical adjustment.
If you're in the market for this price point, it's exactly what you want to hear. I'm lovin it - on a budget.
Pros
- Free feeder
- Inexpensive but works
Cons
- bulky
- Hard to move
Best Uses
The Heater Pro is a great machine. The unit came with a broken cover but they say it will be replaced. It throws solid pitches and has helped my son improve without the [$] price tag. It is meant to be left in one place. It is heavy even for two people to assemble. A great feature would be a quick disconnect so the motor could come inside and the legs left in place.
This thing has a wide range of speeds and is easy to operate. It was set up and ready to go in minutes. I would strongly recommend the ball feeder, it is worth it.
I have to say my son has used it for a few rounds after dinner and we have used it when the entire team came over. In every instance it has done a great job, couldn't be happier.
Pros
- Works with dimpled balls
- Works w leather balls
Cons
- Wrecks vinyl coverd balls
Best Uses
- Improved teams hitting
My son and I now enjoy hearing the opposing team coaches tell their team to "back up" when my son comes to bat. Batting skill and consistency has improved after just a few hours of use. We have taken the machine to team practices and are seeing improvement in batting performance of teammates. The Heater is best used with the yellow dimpled balls that are sold separately and specially made for it, but it also works well with genuine leather baseballs, but do not use immitation leather or vinyl balls because it will destroy vinyl balls which become severely abraded. The adjustable angle also makes it a great tool for practicing catching pop flys.
