While Hayneedle provides excellent customer service, the manufacturer misrepresents this table by referring to it as "Wood." My table was damaged in two corners and it appeared that there was an attempt in the manufacturing process to reattach the surface that had peeled off with glue. This area looks like a papery laminate. Maybe the base of the table top is inexpensive wood, but I'm not so sure the surface is. This table would be OK in a very casual kitchen or in a work room. To me it's not really appropriate for a living/dining space. It's sturdy enough, but looks cheap and not look like wood.

Firstly, it was very difficult to get imformation regarding this table. I contacted Hillsdale prior to purchasing it, and was given some inaccurate details about the finish. But once the table was in my home and assembled, I saw that it had been damaged, most likely during the manufacturing stage. While at a glance this appears to be a solid top, albeit a little cheap in finish, I noticed where the corners were banged in, a surface "veneer" which almost looked like paper, had been glued back in place. I then became more concerned about this surface. I contacted Hayneedle, and they attempted to get more precise information for me, but were given a vague response from Hillsdale. I then contacted Hillsdale once again and was ultimately told that this was an MDF table with a rubberwood veneer. The more I looked at the table, I feel I was once again misled. It appears to have a solid wood top with an artificial laminate surface. I don't know what that surface is made of, but I'm a little dubious that it's wood. Either way, it looks like a table you may have in a kitchen especially if you have young children. It doesn't really look like a dining table because of the way it's finished. I love the IDEA of this table (the distressed, industrial look) but this is a cheap knock off. The metal frame is OK, however, and the table seems sturdy. Hayneedle, was very patient with my calls regarding the damage as well as the misrepresentation from the manufacturer. They were willing to accomodate me anyway they could. Do buy from Hayneedle, but think twice about this table.
