About Shorea Wood
Shorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. Related to Burma teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries, making it considerably less expensive than teak. Because shorea is dense, heavy, and hard, and contains an abundance of natural oils, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, weather, and marring.
Shorea is strong and weather-resistant enough to be left untreated. If left untreated, each piece will weather to a nice shade of gray. The weathering process will change the color, but the grain will still be smooth. You may treat each piece with Teak Oil to prolong weathering. Each piece is durable, classic, and elegant.

Regulations on harvesting shorea wood promote the sustainability of the species and encourage responsible practices for the sake of conservation. I bought 3 of these Storage benches, for a client that needed more storage and outdoor seating at a loft balcony in downtown Phoenix. They worked out great. Easy to assemble, and attractive. AS a designer, I had 4" colorful cushions made for them and added a redwood planter and pillows to finish the look! See the picture I am attaching.

The wood on the lid is already splitting on the corner after only being outside in the summer heat for 3 weeks.

I am a structural engineer and am generally very critical & disappointed with the way kits assemble. This is probably the best quality kit I have ever purchased. Very attractive box. Great value. Works perfect on our deck to store four cushions. Looks great with our new Cumaru wood decking.

I love it!!! Perfect fit in my basement as I am using it to store away heavy winter coats. Few imperfections: wood planks are splinting, but yet it's very sturdy and the pillow cushion was dingy, however great price for great product

I've paid more for the seat cushion alone! Quality constructed, real wood, easy to assemble. Hinged lid is easy to open. Just be careful as the tie down for the pad can rip off very easily - already had to sew them back on. But, the pad has a zipper off cover so you can wash it! You get a lot for the money!

Okay, I have to say, I could have built a better one myself. While the wood and design is nice, the quality is shoddy at best. Not weather proof; the hinge/latch doesn't hold the lid open; the wood is not sanded so therefore prone to splinters. I had gotten a few just putting it together. Oh, yeah. Something else: the instructions are terrible. Very vague. Unless you are machancially inclined, you'd never understand the intructions. Took ME awhile to figure it out and I'm a notched handyman.
I'm seriously considering taking it and rebuilding it to a better quality and weather proof. (Just need to find the time)
