INDOOR HANGING INSTRUCTIONS
- Locate a Ceiling Joist by tapping or using a stud finder. The beam must be a solid straight-grained structural joist, usually found every 16 to 18 inches from each other.
- Vertically drill a 5/16-inch pilot hold in the middle of the joist for the screw to go into.
- We recommend that you rotate the screw eye in all the way to the eye for best support.
- Tie the 2 free ends of the chair ropes onto the large S-hook by using an overhand knot.
- Hang the S-hook onto the screw eye and determine the rope length that suites your ceiling height.
- The assembled chair should hang approximately 12 to 14 inches from the floor, based on your personal preference.
- You may need to make some adjustments to the rope until you find the right sitting height to accommodate your own height.
- Insert the dowels deeply into the boot cups.
- Get a good book or crossword puzzle and get ready to Relax!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR HANGING THE CHAIR OUTDOORS
- Tie a separate loop of rope over the tree limb, and drop it down to a height one can reach from the ground.
- Follow the hanging instructions from the instructions for Hanging the Chair Indoors beginning at Step 3.
- Once the chair is assembled, hook the large S-hook onto the rope loop of the chair.
- Some adjustments may need to be made until you find the perfect height for your desired relaxation.
- You may consider purchasing a Tree Strap & Carabineer Clamp for quick hook-up and release.
Care
Machine Washing
Holding the two hanging end rings in your hands, bring them together, folding the hammock chair in half. Tie the hammock chair together with string just below the hanging rings. Tie the hammock chair together again, at the opposite end, and once more in the middle of the hammock chair. This should prevent the metal rings from becoming entangled with the string bed of the hammock chair, and the strings themselves from getting tangled as well. Put the tied up hammock chair into a pillowcase, and tie the pillowcase closed. Be sure to tie it securely, as the washing machine has rigorous agitation, and you do not want the hammock chair to come out of the pillow. Use mild detergent to wash. It's important to not use bleach. After washing, carefully remove hammock chair from pillowcase and untie. Hang up hammock chair and spread out as much as possible to dry completely. Do not put the hammock chair in a tumble dryer.
Hand Washing
Holding the two hanging rings in your hands, bring them together, folding the hammock chair in half. In a large sink or bathtub, immerse the hammock chair in water mixed with a mild detergent. It's important to not use bleach. With your hands, agitate the water until you feel the hammock chair is clean. After washing, carefully untie and unfold the hammock chair. Hang up hammock chair and spread out to dry completely. Do not put the hammock chair in a tumble dryer.
Storage
After first making sure your hammock chair is clean and completely dry, hold the two hanging rings in your hands, bring them together, folding the hammock chair in half. Tie the hammock chair together with string just below the hanging rings, and again just above the point where the hammock bed begins, to prevent tangling. When storing, it's important to protect against moisture, soiling and critters. The easiest way to prevent these threats to your hammock chair is to use a storage bag made of outdoor, weather resistant, durable fabric that allows the hammock chair to breath. If you do not have a storage bag, hang the hammock chair from its metal rings in your garage or basement, or anywhere it will remain dry and out of the way. If you find any mold or mildew when you bring your hammock chair out the next season, we recommend using a mild detergent.

We first bought a hammock chair back in the '80s. Hung it on the patio and quickly realized to save our marriage, we would need one for each of us. So quickly purchased the second one.
Patio faces a beautiful wooded area and we spend all our summer outdoor time living and cooking in the backyard.
Main activities include relaxing, visiting, reading, napping, rocking grandchildren and now great grandchildren.
Once a person, young or old, sits in one of the hammock chairs, they don't want to get up because someone else is waiting for a chance to take their place; there have been lots of good-natured bribes and promises made between family members to get to sit in the swings.
These two hammock chairs, which are left out year-round, are our third set in three decades. I am delighted that there is now a choice of pretty colors.

The ropes are so stretchy that you have to adjust the height after each use. We have run out of chain and it's still stretching. The space between the weave became very large, 12" holes. Would not buy this product again. Will throw it away. Also, it's very easy to hit your head on the cross bar. AND it's very difficult to get out of.

Comments about Island Bay Hammocks Island Bay Rope Hammock Chair:
NICE - is the easiest way to describe this hammock. I received it on the day promised and installed it right away at a shady spot on the patio. Everyone who has tried it doesn't want to get out of it - very relaxing. The grandkids really like it too.
The cotton rope construction has stretched some and I have adjusted the hang chain up several links. I am hoping that it won't stretch too much - not many links left for adjustment. It seems to be very well made. I am looking forward to many naps to come in the hammock.

Comments about Island Bay Hammocks Island Bay Rope Hammock Chair:
I ordered this to replace a similar swing purchased on vacation 20 years ago. While I could not be sure from pictures, it DOES have enough seat length to extend your legs into a footrest position (5'5") which was a favorite old-swing feature. If you zoom in you will notice the ropes from the spreader separate into 3 different sections (think head, seat, legs) and are different lengths. This is what makes it very comfortable and flexible. The ropes are thick and soft to the touch. The wooden spreader is wide for comfort, sturdy and includes hanging hardware. All rope ends are seared to prevent raveling and make for a very neat appearance. Delivery was quick. It will hang on a lakefront covered porch and will be our new favorite reading, children cuddling, sipping and chatting chair. Thanks for a great product.
