Discovered in the sandbanks of Scotland by a local shepherd in 1831, the Isle of Lewis set is the world's oldest complete set of chessmen. Whereas the originals are carved from walrus tusks by 12th century Norwegians, this replica has been handcrafted from ground marble resin. The antiqued ivory and blood red pieces are identical to the famous pieces now housed in the British Museum and Museum of Edinburgh.
