This bookcase was difficult to assemble. It was very hard to slide the particle board backing into place. There were small grooves to guide it, but the backing was so flimsy that it kept bowing and folding making it very challenging to slide in place. As a result, the particle board (which arrived folded in two) began to tear along the crease (like a piece of paper that is folded too many times and thus rips). The doors on the bottom have to be lined up just right to close. I would say my biggest complaint with this bookcase is that it is not very functional. And isn't that the most important quality wanted in furniture? That you can use it and enjoy it? If you just want to use it for show, I find it to be attractive. The cream/distressed finished is what I wanted. The cabinet doors look nice, if you can get past the fact that they don't open and close well. It is a good size and looks nice. But I have not put any books in it yet, as I am afraid it will fall apart if I do.
