Baader Planetarium Laser Colli MKIII Laser Collimator
Item#: HN-AAS005Price:
$97.00
Description
Baader Planetarium has added a unique innovation to the laser collimator. The Laser Colli incorporates a viewable etched viewing plate which can be seen through the back of the laser collimator. This permits collimation of SCTs and small diameter closed tube Newtonians, instruments that were difficult or impossible to collimate using a conventional single beam laser collimator.
Each collimator is individually lathe aligned for accurate collimation. The one-piece die-cast and machined aluminum housing guarantees a stable alignment. The compact size and lightweight make the Laser Colli an indispensable tool that is handy to keep in anyone's eyepiece box (though we doubt too many will find use as a keychain).

I know that there are at least two reviews ahead of me that show this product in a negative light but the "problem" that they're having isn't really a problem at all, those people just aren't very smart. You see collimating is usually a pretty tricky thing and this product makes it VERY easy to do. Their problem is that every time they collimate using this product then remove the laser coli and put it right back in again, it's different(they must not have read the manual that came with it because it clearly addresses this issue). The answer to their "problem" is that you MUST make sure that you insert the collimator EXACTLY the same way every time and then in tern insert your eyepieces the same way. Insert both the adapter and the coli with the tightening screws facing upwards and with consistent force every time and you'll be fine...

Completely useless for collimating
I found this to be completely useless. How you tighten the screws on the visual back tilts this in a different direction each time making collimation impossible. The manual doesn't comment on this problem....Read complete review

Comments about Baader Planetarium Laser Colli MKIII Laser Collimator:
Nicely made. Instructions good for NT, minimal for SCT. Had a little trouble getting it to go back in the same place once removed. Would say it's good for rough alignment, but you will have star align after.

Comments about Baader Planetarium Laser Colli MKIII Laser Collimator:
This is by far the best collimator I have used in a long time , easy to use and highly accurate . I owned the Mark II version and did not like it , the on/off switch was baddly designed and the whole thing appeared cheap and the key holder was useless . This Mark III is vastly improved with a real on/off switch , rubber sleeve for positive grip at night , easy battery access and bright beam with the best centering system . The only drawback is that it uses the odd battery size L41 and they last a shorter time than the other collimator I have used . They are though cheap when you buy them online , I just bought a 20 pack of Maxell for less than [$] , that will last me a while . All in all excellent product with high quality components , it would of get a 5 if not for the battery hungryness.
