Description
The modern woman will love the look, as well as the convenience, of the Layla Jewelry Box. Sleek and sophisticated, this versatile box is finished in a rich, dark java tone that contrasts with the pewter-tone hardware. Open the lid to reveal a mirrored interior and four equally-sized compartments. Six drawers with pewter-tone pulls run down the front of the jewelry box; five contain dividers, and one contains rolls for secure ring storage. On either side, doors open to reveal a total of six necklace hooks for tangle-free necklace safekeeping. Locking top compartment stores valuables for safe keeping.
This jewelry box is hand-lined in ivory suede fabric, soft enough for your finest pieces. It locks closed with the included tassel key.
About Mele
Emidio Mele, an Italian immigrant to the United States, came to New York City in 1896 and learned to make jewelry boxes as an apprentice before founding Mele Manufacturing in 1912. He began by designing and building elegant displays for jewelry store windows. His jewelry box making business grew throughout the 1900s, responding to demands for boxes to hold Purple Hearts during WWII and developing as a popular household name for quality jewelry boxes. Today Mele Jewelry Box is known as the Mele Companies, which encompass various divisions under the Mele name. Now based in Utica, N.Y., Mele still upholds the family atmosphere on which it was founded and remains America's foremost name in jewelry cases.

I bought this for my girlfriend for her birthday. She needed a jewelry box with all of the little things that she has accumulated over the years and this worked perfectly. She loves the mirror that is on the flip top of the box and loved organizing all of her things. I did notice that the lock is only for the flip top of the box, not the entire thing. Not a big deal though since it isn't the most secure box ever made anyways.

I was specifically searching for a locking jewelry box as I've had some pieces stolen from my home. I was a bit disappointed to find that only one compartment on this model locks. It's at the very top under the lid. The side panels and individual drawer compartments do not lock. A real disadvantage. On the pro side, the jewelry box is very nicely made, looks terrific in the room and was packaged quite nicely. Price is good too.

I was really impressed with how quickly the item was shipped and that it was packaged with great care. The product itself is well built and nothing seems cheaply done. The drawers slide smooth and doors open up without a priblem. Great product for the money.
