Constructed of solid hardwood and veneers, it has a lush cherry finish and your option choice of variegated brownmarble top or black granite. The server came yesterday and we love it. However, be aware that the black marble top is slightly scored, which was as surprise. Doesn't really effect the look. Very sturdy and came fully assembled, except for two interior shelves which just rest on clips. The backing is fairly flimsy and needed tacked down. You couldn't use this piece if the back was showing.
Delivery was a horror. The first time the piece was delivered, the packing appeared fine, but one door was completely broken so the delivery guys took it back. Two weeks later, the second one came and it never got off the truck. The piece had broken through the pallet and the legs were all scratched and broken. We called Hayneedle and told them we still wanted the piece but explained that we are in a gated community and had to pay $ 25 for every delivery! They agreed to reduce the cost. Came yesterday, packed better but this time the instructions were curb side delivery only! had to tip the guys $ 20 to put it in place. But it looks great and we love it

Although this was delivered very well packaged, and it is sturdy, I was disappointed by a few things. Several sites described this as Cherry with Marble top. Just so you know, the wood is Alder Birch veneer on particle board. The varnish is stripy - a bit more pronounced than in the photo. I'm tempted to strip it and redo the finish. The marble in the photo looks richer. On mine it varies from a medium to dark cream, a chocolate milk brown & darker brown. This is not a slab of marble. The top consists of diagonal rows of many 3 x 3 inch squares; I assume glued together. If you got a granite top it tells you how to maintain the granite. Perhaps this marble is what is coated with 1/8" of resin. It doesn't tell you how to care for the marble, only for "High Gloss Table Maintenance." The knobs are silvery chrome. There is minor assembly - placing the knobs on the outside and inserting the shelf in each cabinet, both easy to accomplish.
I thought the freight company used excellent. And hayneedle.com a pleasure to deal with. I would order from them again.
