The Meade #505 AstroFinder software/connector cable kit allows you to control your telescope from a PC. Load the AstroFinder software into your computer, and your #497 Autostar-equipped, ETX telescope can be remotely controlled from the PC's display. Simply point and click your way to any object on the computer screen, and the telescope will automatically slew around and place the object in your field of view. Truly, star-finding has never been so easy or rewarding!
Kit Includes:
- The #505, 6-foot connector cable, and
- A DB-9 serial adapter for connection to a PC or laptop.
The kit works with all Meade ETX 90/105/125 telescopes that use the #497 Autostar controller. Compatible with Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, and 7

So far I have received 2 cables form hayneedle and neither one of them works. I am in the process of trying to figure out if its me or the cables and so far everything says its the cables. I have heard that meade had released a bunch of bad cables a while back and no I am wondering if hayneedle got them all. Better to go straight to meade for accesory needs.

Just purchased and installed it. Program appears to have all the needed functionality, but it will take a LOT of trial and error to figure it out. Oh well, this is after all just a hobby.

The cable works exactly as it is supposed to. I had trouble getting my Meade LX90 to update thru the AstoUpdater, and Meade's customer support site is hard to follow. They have several programs with similar names...and an updater that you have to update. Here's what I found
1. AutoStar Suite is the main program
2. AutoStar Updater is another program found in AutoStar Suite
3. You must update AutoStar Updater in order for newer telescopes to communicate properly. The version on my disk was 5 yrs old
Once I updated AutoStar Updater, everything worked properly. I don't use the AutoStar Suite (yet) but the Updater can be used to updater information about new satellites, the ISS, comets, everything that's out there. I hope this helps.

I have poor vision and needed a way to see the stars. Being able to watch a screen is so much easier. Next, still photos.

It still amazes me when we live in a plug and play world, and yet manufacturers still produce things with archaic technology, would be useful to do away with the rs-232 connector and give us a simple connection with usb on one end and a connector to snap into the mount on the other...
With that being said, after buying a 3rd party rs-232 to usb adapter so that I could connect my scope mount to my laptop computer, it worked like a charm.
Its being used on a LXD75-AR5 with a 497 controller.
