The "Portable Observatory" adds a Hard Case for the telescope and an additional 9.7mm Super Plossl Eyepiece.

I bought this scope as a gift for myself, I've always wanted a telescope. This one came,I set it up and used it that night. It started to push against the stop in " home " position. I got to buy another one while I waited for Meade to move to Mexico before they could fix it. I finally got a refund after six or so weeks. I purchased the " new" scope from BH and found the skewing gears had so much slop that they (BH) had to tighten the slew screw so much that the slowest speeds on the control, ( anything under 5),wouldn't work. This I found by loosening the screw and finding all that slop. By this time the warranty was up, ( I had surgery ) and BH new nothing of any slop in any scope they sold, and of course they would never sell a demo or floor model as "new" . I beg to differ. I LOVE THIS TELESCOPE ! Aside from lousy dealers, this scope is fantastic. It's easy to align, easy to set up, easy to use. Push the GOTO button, it GOES TO. I've used it for night and day observation and it works excellently for both. Just don't look at the sun !

A great replacement for my old f8 4-1/2" reflector! Better visibility and the same basic controls. I wish set-up was a little easier, but it doesn't get any more portable (safely portable!) than this. As another viewer complained about, there is a distinct grinding noise as the motors are tracking, however I'm going to suspend paranoia until it has a little time to wear in.

This is a nice scope with a major design flaw. I had high expectations when I purchased my ETX90 and that had a lot to do with the 10" Meade LX200 Schmidt Cassegrain that I sold away some years back. The LX was nice. It ran perfectly. I used it a TON for years and never had a single issue. On the ETX's very first night of full-on use it was having issues. Toward the end of that night, it was not slewing to the next object and was making a funny "I'm stuck" noise. Later, I went to take out the batteries and their casing would not pull free due to the slack in the wiring that should be there was non-existent. After a couple days of pulling at the battery casing to try and take them out, (they recommend removing batteries after each use) one of the wires had snapped, "bye warranty". My brother in law was nice enough to help take it apart and look at what happened. From a former Meade owner with high expectations, this was not a purchase I can recommend.

I know telescopes (I built them for years) and when it comes to quality and price, Meade is #1.
The etx. 90,105 and 125 are beautiful scopes. I've owned and used many meade scopes and these are outstanding quality for the price. Planetary, binary stars and deep sky structure are it's strength and great contrast. You can not go wrong with these scopes
