Meade Telescope Moon Filter ND96
Item#: HN-MEAD012Price:
$19.99
Description
A must have for lunar observing in telescopes with apertures of 4 inches or larger. A full moon's light through the eyepiece of your telescope can be blinding. A moon filter acts like a pair of sunglasses! Dramatically reducing glare, brightness and lets you observe the lunar surface comfortably. Craters on the lunar surface stand out in better detail and definition.
The Meade series 4000 ND96 Moon Filter is 1.25 inch format and manufacturered from crown optical glass. Anti-reflection coatings on both sides and is mounted in a machined aluminum cell. Filter threads into the barrels of nearly all 1.25 inch eyepieces.

I'm impressed with this product and it works as advertised. Have used it several nights to view the moon with and it definitely is a big improvement and really helps to bring out the detail of the moon. I even used it on a full moon and was impressed with the great detail as well as comfortable viewing it provided. No more burning my eye out to try to study the moon! I rated this 4/5 as I'm new to astronomical equipment and I realize there possibly could be something better out there in comparison. This is my first moon filter and I'm happy with it. One morning I even used it on a very bright Venus and was able to see the shape a little better.
For cons, I am using it with a Meade 70mm refractor, the NG-70SM, and with the filter screwed onto the eyepiece the eyepiece no longer slides all of the way down into the diagonal. That's the reason I gave it a "poor fit" con. It still works and very well, just that I'm not sure it's made for the type scope I'm using it on.

Comments about Meade Telescope Moon Filter ND96:
Much better filter than the one that came with the telescope. The fliter is almost full width 1.25 instead of the small glass that cheaper filters have.

Comments about Meade Telescope Moon Filter ND96:
I used it last night with my 1.25 9mm for lunar observation and it made a huge difference. Much more clear and a lot less glare. Good product. Fits nice too.

Comments about Meade Telescope Moon Filter ND96:
I learned a long time ago to take care of these old eyes and doing astronomy for a long time I recommend a moon filter. There are nights when the moon is so bright that its uncortable to view it for too long (for me anyway). This takes nothing away from the quality and lets you view it for longer and see a lot of the great mares etc.
