The 30-inch, USB to RS232 bridge cable adapter permits connection of Meade ETX-, DS2000-, LX90- and LX200-Series telescopes to a PC via USB port. Many new laptop computers do not have RS232 serial ports and offer the faster USB ports instead. With this bridge cable, you can make the USB connection anyway. Driver software compatible with Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 or XP is included. This software essentially creates a virtual serial port on your computer. To complete the connection, however, you'll also need a Meade connector cable set.

The firmware in my LX-200 corrupted. It was then necessary to download the current software from the Meade website into the telescope. However, my laptop does not have a serial port; therefore, I had to purchase the adapter that allows the connection of a USB port to a serial interface. It works great! Enough said.

I wanted to hook up my Meade LXD-75 SN-8AT to my new laptop but didn't have a serial port so I ordered this adapter which worked perfectly in Windows Vista.

Since buying a new computer with Windows Vista I can not get the USB interface to work. Vista has removed all the tools that were previously used to troubleshoot com port problems. I have tried to find answers in many of the user forums for Meade telescopes but while a lot of people are having this problem nobody seems to have the answer. Meade does not have the answer either, they said they were "working on it", but gave me no timeline.
