The Nature Mill Metro Compost Bin makes a great environmental contribution to city living thanks to its 3-gallon weekly capacity, superior durability, and minimalist style. The Metro, made from 100% stainless steel internal components, works automatically indoors or outdoors, resulting in a mild earthy aroma that won't stink up the house. The two-chamber design couldn't be simpler - just add food to the upper chamber and remove compost every two weeks from the lower chamber. The bin, with a capacity of 3 gallons (11 liters), handles a typical family of four or five. Plus, it operates at only 49 decibels for noninvasive use. Dimensions: 24L x 24W x 29H inches.

I thought this would be a purchase that wouldn't require any additional purchases. You have to add 1 cup of sawdust pellets for every 4 cups of scraps as well as 1 TBSP of baking soda.

Unit arrived quickly. Opening (mouth) is small so when placing garbage in, it's easy for it to fall on the floor.
When opening, I have to hold the unit down so I can pull the lid up......when getting the compost out the door comes off.......it would have been better hinged. I have to hold the unit back while i pull out the bin. seems like it should be easier. It is comforting to know that food waste is being recycled. I love that part.

I recently bought the product and still tinkering with it. I have yet to produce perfect compost with it but my main complaint is the customer service. At the price I paid I would expect someone to pick up the phone and answer my few simple questions. I do not even get help in form of emails in timely fashion. I hate to return the product but it might have to go just because of lack of help.

When the bears knocked over my outside compost and tore it apart for the 3rd time, we decided to try the NatureMill. So far so good but we have only had it for under a week. We placed on our back sun room, close to the kitchen, but may move it to the basement. So far, very few odors and seems to be doing what it is supposed to do. I will transfer the compost later this week and see how it looks.
