Comments about Nikon ProStaff 5 82mm Fieldscopes:
I recently bought a Nikon ProStaff Spotting Scope 20-60 x82mm
1/21/2012
I was not happy with so many spotting scope reviews for most scopes because they didn't tell me anything. I would highly guess that at 100-200 yards you can see bullet holes. That is not going to make me run out and buy it. I want to know what you can see at 500-1000 yards.
Today I was checking out some F Class targets at 1000 yds. I was able to see the numbers on the target even the 9 and 10 numerals which were smaller. I was trying to see the bullet holes on these used targets between being pulled up and down but was not able on this cloudy day. Obviously the spotters in the target were visible after each shot was marked. I still am hoping with a new target on a sunny day that I will be able to see some of the bullet holes with this scope being that I could see those numbers well. I shopped on line for the lowest price and think it is worth what I paid.

I tried to view several used targets at 1000 yds. with no success. The holes were made with a 308 so not very big. I was able to read the print on all the signs there, some of which was 1-2 inches in size. I could see the bolts in the sigh and noticed some dents. Then I cut it down by tenths of a mile. I could not see the bullet holes until I was a little over 3 tenths of a mile away or 550 yds. At this distance I was able to see very nicely as long as I took my time focusing. I am still pleased with the results and am not going to quit trying to see the bullet holes using different colored targets. These were green targets. One was a hundred yard target, the other a small silhouette. It was a clear sunny day. The sun was shining right on the target. Wonder if a white back ground would work better.
