But the directions were unclear. And the half of the decorative pegs had to be glued in to place. The end product is lovely.

We are happy with our purchase. It is a very solid bookshelf with an unusual style. I can see that people with little furniture assembly experience might have some trouble to put the unit together. The instruction sheet is a rather bad copy with most of the assembly instructions cut off and missing. However, with a bit of common sense the assembly is easy. One shortcoming, the wood corbels do not fit the holes and need to be glues in with wood glue. Making them fit the predrilled holes would be a nice design improvement. Also, the design would be better if one side, which is facing the wall, would be straight vertical and not angle away from the wall. Overall the unit does for us what we expected. For the price it is not a steal, but the solid wood construction makes it a good support for heavy books.

Purchased for a furnished apartment.
Things that are great: Nice decorator piece and makes a nice display. Good value for the price.
Not so great: Directions are terrible! Once figured out, easy to assemble by one person. Do not overtighten screw bolts or the wood will crack.
