This feeder is near impossible to fill!! The lid lifts straight up the rigid center bar leaving barely a 2 inch clearance for trying to pour/scoop/whatever the feed into the tube. HORRIBLE time will be had each and every time you need to refill. AND, forget about trying to hang it from a Sheperd's Hook, just forget that. You have to lift it up at over a 90 degree angle to clear the tip of the hook. You have to have a tremendous amount of strength to first of all lift it when full - it is quite heavy. Then you must firmly have the bottom of the tube seated in the base and an extreme amount of pressure applied to both the lid & base to keep the whole thing together as you try to manuever the hoop at the top of the rod over the tip of the Sheperd's Hook!!! OhMy!! I read that someone swapped out the rigid center rod for a sturdy treated wire with a hanging loop and strung it up that way. Then you can lift the lid and tilt it to the side when filling and the loop at the end of the wire will have the flexibility to be placed over tip of the Sheperd's Hook. I'm not very handy that way but that is the only way this will be functional. HORRID design.
