What We Like About This Chess Set
If you're looking for a handsome traditional wood chess set with a magnetic surface, look no further. Much closer to a full size board than a travel board, play is comfortable with plenty of room. Great for travel or outdoor play because the pieces are magnetized to the board so they stay put during game play. We include a storage bag, too (random colors of bag).
The board is crafted of the finest maple and walnut wood with an inlaid border for a smart, sophisticated look. The chessmen are made of high-quality maple and sheesham wood with a gloss finish. The board folds in half and the pieces store inside of the board for take-it-on-the-go ease.

We gave this set as a birthday gift to our 10-year old grandson, who has recently joined the Chess Club at his school. He was playing on a cheap plastic set, so he was thrilled to receive this one. As his father put it, "This is a beautiful set that our son will be privileged to pass down to his own children." We love the fact that the pieces are magnetic, so you don't have "accidental" spills! The board, with its wallnut and maple squares, is stunning. We could not be more pleased, and it was a very proud Grandpa who was honored to play the first game on the set with his grandson and best pal.

Everything is nice but they either accidentally or on purpose sent me chess pieces from a set that is not the one depicted in the pictures. The set is much more inferior and I did not like it at all. However, they did offer me a small discount or a full credit if chose to return it. I am still deciding. I am pretty disappointed that they did this.

This is a very nice chessboard. The fit and finish are top notch and the pieces are nicely crafted. The magenetism is just enough to stick without being sticky.
I'm not sure I'd carry this thing around - it's that nice and perhaps not terribly durable. Only time will tell
Laying flat - I only wish the clasps folded up and perhaps there was some way of locking the board into the open position. Also, the underside where the pieces fit is exposed in the open position - so you can't just open this beauty on a rock or a table splashed with coffee. Make sure you really want a folding portable chess set.

It's a nice set. Beautiful pieces and a nice board. I plan to take it to bars and cafes to play. The carrying bag (mine came in green) isn't that great... won't protect it from scratches (the board scratches easily). The set also doesn't have extra queens or knights should the pawns make it to the other end of the board. Overall, I'm very pleased with it though.

This was a gift for our son-in-law, but his children are using it the most. The seven-year-old carries the game around, and with the magnets under the pieces, they don't slide or fall off the board. Those little magnets are a great feature!
