Description
The Lewis Chessmen were lost in the 12th century and rediscovered in 1831. The originals are now housed in British museums, but you can have an exact replica with Red Isle of Lewis Chess Pieces by Studio Anne Carlton. Skilled craftsman have made sure even the tiniest of details like the kite-shaped shields and caricature-like faces are there. The light pieces are finished in antiqued white and the opposing side is a vibrant, blood red. This is the very set that was featured in the film "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone." All pieces have been constructed from polyresin, crushed stone composite with the look and feel of stone but the durability of plastic. Each side's king measures a full 3.5 inches in height.
About Studio Anne Carlton
Established in Hull, Yorkshire, in 1969, Studio Anne Carlton now lists over 100 chess sets. They all bear the hallmarks of skill and tradition so typical of the world-famous sculptors and artists used by Studio Anne Carlton. Each Studio Anne Carlton chess set uses the timeless skills and craftsmanship originating from the company's founding. All pieces are hand-produced and finished in either a traditional brown and cream appearance or hand decorated with painstaking detail. The sculptures often take many months to complete, and every care is taken to ensure historical accuracy where appropriate. As the artists' masterpiece, the figures pass through various casting processes until suitable production molds can be made without losing any of the original detail.
In 2003, Studio Anne Carlton line was bought by Traditional Games. They moved manufacturing from the U.K. to China around 2003. All poly resin chess sets are made in China today. SAC's wooden chess sets come primarily from India. SAC is a name that stands for the world's recognized leader for decorative theme chess sets and other classic traditional games.
