Description
Constructed from durable rubberwood and boasting a classic arch design, the Richmond Twin over Twin Bunk Bed will withstand the test of time. Square posts and slats perfectly accentuate elegant arches to create a solid Roman-inspired look. Choose from several finishes to coordinate with your kids' room decor. The wooden ladder clips on securely to guide your child safely to the top bunk. As versatile as it is stylish, this bunk bed can also be separated into two twin beds to fit the needs of your family. If you need more sleeping space, the optional trundle bed will quickly and efficiently accommodate another sibling or a sleepover guest. To increase storage without sacrificing floor space, add the two under-bed drawers to your order. They roll out smoothly and tuck all sorts of items neatly out of sight.
About Atlantic Furniture
Founded in 1983 as Watercraft, Inc., Atlantic Furniture started as a manufacturer of pine waterbed frames. Since then, the Springfield, Mass.-based company has expanded to Fontana, Calif. The company has moved away from the use of pine and now specializes in imported furniture made of the wood of rubber trees.
The Benefits of Eco-Friendly Rubberwood
Prized as an environmentally friendly wood, rubberwood makes use of trees that have been cut down at the end of their latex-producing life cycle. Originally native to Thailand, the trees are removed by hand and replaced with new seedlings. In the past, felled rubber trees were either burned on the spot or used as fuel for locomotive engines, brick firing, or latex curing. Now the wood is used in the manufacture of high-end furniture. It is valued for its dense grain, stability, attractive color, and acceptance of different finishes.
Atlantic's Unique Five-Step Finishing Process
Each product in the entire line is finished with a high-build, five-step finishing process. After a thorough sanding, a wipe-on sealer is applied, followed by a tinted sealer to even the grain and color of the wood. Additional sanding prepares the surface for the first base color coat, more sanding, and a second base color coat. After a final sanding, the finish coat is applied. This process produces a beautiful and durable finish that will last for years.

While this is a nice looking and sturdy bed, I was very frustrated with the assembly process. Many of the pre-drilled holes for the bolts and barrel nuts were drilled a few fractions of an inch off. As a result, I had to drill elongated holes in order to bolt the parts together. What should have been a 2 hour project turned into a 4 hour one. I have no perspective on the long-term durability of the bed, since I just put it together yesterday.

Comments about Atlantic Furniture Richmond Twin over Twin Bunk Bed:
Bought this for my ex-husbands house for my little girls room (age 3 and 4) They love it and it looks great. We added the bottom drawer and that rolls on the floor, no tracks. For us this works since we have hardwood floors but it was something I did not know when ordering.

Comments about Atlantic Furniture Richmond Twin over Twin Bunk Bed:
These beds look great - we are using them separately until our girls get older or just to have the option of stacking them if we move to a place where space is limited. The price can't be beat. With young kids and frequent moves, we don't like splurging for high end pieces that will likely end up damaged. These were very easy to assemble - hubby needed minimal help from me. Our girls love them. One of the side rails could use a better coat of paint, but it's against the wall, so not a deal breaker. [...]. We're happy.
