We own about 7 chess sets and this is our favorite.
The pieces are are detailed in the front as well as the back. We own a really expensive set that looks great from the front but the peices all look the same from the back.
The pieces are not fragile so we dont hold our breath when one gets knocked over as we do with other sets we own.
The storage drawer is the icing on the cake. Each piece has its own elastic band to hold it in place although my son does not want to be bothered with it to that extent, if you are not traveling it is safe to just lay the pieces in the drawer. Other sets we own are a problem because we have no place to put the pieces and they are too fragile to leave out.
In summary anyone who plays should have a nice wood set expecially if you dont have the room to leave it set up then this one is for you.

Not only was the box worn and ripped, the board looked nothing like what was advertised. A low level laminated piece of trash. The picture also showed the chess pieces held in place by individual elastic holders in the drawers...nope. Cheap cloth lining. I will never purchase from this cheese ball company again.

The pieces that come with this set are much too light. I purchased a nice rosewood double - weighted set of pieces to use with this board.
The draw that holds the pieces is kind of flimsy.
It doesn't feel like it will last the test of time. The board itself appears to be made of masonite with a printed laminate glued to it, but it is visually appealing. Overall I like it very much. with the new pieces I bought, it does the job, and it didn't break the bank.

My 10-yr old son loves playing chess and received this item for Christmas. It is a beautiful wood layout and how it stores chess pieces without getting lost. If I had a coffee table, I would put it on display and play antyime!
