This shelf is actually quite cute in person. It is shorter than I had imagined, but OK for a child. The paint job is really nice all around and the sides aren't just flat, there's a little texture like to simulate carving. It was very easy to put together, but mine was missing some of the little pieces that hold the top in place. The shelf height is just barely too short to hold those closet maid canvas cubes, but I found another brand that is shorter and 2 cubes fit side by side. Of course, most of the cuteness is lost if you place the shelf in a place where you can't see the sides of it.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
