Quick Tips for Purchasing Christmas Flags
1. Decorative lights are a wonderful way to brighten up the yard for the holidays but don’t make their magic until after the sun goes down. Christmas flags can bring good tidings both day and night. Think about placing your flag near existing landscape lighting for nighttime visibility.
2. Look for flags manufactured from durable synthetic fabrics specifically made for outdoor use. Dernier polyester is a good choice. Quality garden flags will be fade, mildew and wrinkle resistant and should feature a two-sided design.
3. Flags can be hung in any number of locations – from poles along walkways, from gates, fences and railings, at front doors or in windows, from a mailbox post or a tree branch. And just because our flags are tough enough for the outdoors doesn’t mean you can’t bring the festivities inside. Foyers and kitchen walls can benefit from a colorful Christmas banner, too.
4. Flag hangers come in a number of different styles allowing you to hang in the place and manner you want. Some popular (and generally inexpensive) options are pole hangers that you push into the ground, dangling hangers that function similar to clothes hangers, bracket mounted types that can be screwed into a wooden surface and hangers that can be attached to windows or walls via suction cups.
5. Take your flag inside during severe weather to increase its lifespan. If you decide to wash the flag, hand wash with mild soap and cool water then hang to dry. Store away from light, dust and moisture.
6. Some horizontal flag holders have finials to keep the flag in place. If not, use a small rubber washer at the end of the pole and your Santa flag won’t sail off on the winter wind.
