Ellen Tracy is synonymous with exclusive, high-quality fabrics, unique colors, and the very concept of the career woman's total wardrobe. It all began in the 1940s in NYC when women needed affordable, attractive blouses at a time when fabric was at a premium. Herb Gallen designed, manufactured, and ultimately sold out of the garment every woman desired and quickly went into business for himself. In 1962, Herb hired Linda Allard as his Director of Design and it was she who took the label into sportswear, petite dresses, and more. By the 1980s, Ellen Tracy was the definitive name in clothes for the career woman and with the new millennium came casual wear and acquisition by none other than Liz Claiborne, Inc. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Liz Claiborne, Ellen Tracy launched internationally in 2010.
