The Douglas C-47 Skytrain is the iconic transport aircraft for World War II, and perhaps the most famous propeller driven transport of all time. The C-47 is a military modification of the Douglas DC-3, and it was used in every theatre of World War II. The Skytrain served in a variety of roles, transporting solid cargo to parachute infantry, and there were even a few variants modified to serve as gunships during the Vietnam conflict, much like the modern AC-130. The C-47 held pivotal roles on multiple occasions, carrying paratroopers over France on D-Day, re-supplying Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, and bringing supplies to Berlin during the early parts of the Berlin Airlift.
This particular C-47 model is painted in the standard army olive drab, with the identification stripes used by Allied aircraft in the later years of World War II to avoid friendly fire incidents. Handcrafted construction and exacting attention to detail make this model a must have for any collector or enthusiast.
