The Kestrel Bocce Measuring Device is not a tape measure. There are no calibrations on the tape. In bocce, bowls and boules we don't need to know the actual distance between the balls that we measure - we just need to know which are closer together and which are farther apart. Use the fixed calipers to measure those oh, so close calls. Measurements are taken from the center of the Pallino to the edge of the Bocce being measured. All other measurements between two balls are taken from the edge of each ball, and measurements between a mark and a ball are taken from the center of the mark to the edge of the ball.
