The holidays are a wonderful time for everyone to get together, but between travel, gifts, and holiday feasts, it can also be an expensive time of year. So why not earn a little extra cash, all from the comfort of your holiday jammies? Here are 10 ways to make money from home this holiday season (and beyond).
1. Mechanical Turk
Computers do a lot for us, but even technology companies need human brainpower from time to time. Amazon’s Mechanical Turk allows you to make money online by completing short tasks, such as transcribing snippets of text. Just create a profile, and it will determine what tasks you’re qualified for.
Whatever your skill set is, be it copywriting or coding, there’s a good chance someone is looking for a freelancer with your talents. Websites such as Upwork and Fiverr allow you to set up a profile and pay rate and share your work with potential employers.
3. Search Engine Evaluation
While search engine ranking is highly driven by computer code, search engine evaluators are occasionally needed to make sure sites like Google and Bing are delivering accurate results. If you have some patience, this is a great way to make money from home.
4. Taking Surveys
Get paid to share your opinion! Companies like to conduct market research in the form of online surveys to find out if products or services are something the public wants. Sometimes the payment is monetary, and other times it’s in the form of gift cards.
5. Website and App Testing
Website and app developers put a lot of focus on user experience. In order to find out whether or not their goals are met, companies find users to test their websites and apps. Keep in mind that to participate in these tests you’ll likely need a web cam and your experience will be recorded.
6. Personal Assistant
Do you like a different challenge every day? Are you organized and quick on your feet? There are multiple requests for personal assistants on freelancing sites. Employers are looking for people who can help with everything from answering email to scheduling appointments.
Writers love to tell the stories of interesting people. Because transcription of interviews can be quite time consuming, writers will often upload their audio for transcription. You make quick cash, writers spend more time writing, and everybody wins!
8. Online How-To Videos
Most of the people who make YouTube videos are regular people looking to get their ideas and talents into the world. However, some people have created part-time jobs doing this through advertising that plays before and during their videos. The more hits you receive, the more money you make.
9. Online Tutoring
If you have knowledge of a particular subject or are fluent in a second language, online tutoring may be a good side hustle. Multiple sites connect tutors with students, but be prepared to complete a background check. Licensed teachers are allowed to teach online as well, particularly for students in secluded areas or subjects not typically offered in school.
10. Customer Service
Many companies hire customer service reps to work from home as independent contractors or full-time employees – an internet search for online customer service positions is a quick way to find them. Keep in mind you will need plenty of patience and computer skills to navigate customer relations, product databases, and online manuals.
If you’re looking for more ways to make money online, don’t feel discouraged. There are plenty of other side jobs out there for the holiday season and the year to come.
