We recently caught up with our friend and former co-worker Delaney Nelson to chat about her beautiful wedding reception in Bennington, Nebraska. To our delight, she shared her inspiration and some creative tips for hosting a successful outdoor party everyone can enjoy.
Summer is a time for celebration, and this was no exception for Delaney and her husband, Jay. From the beginning, the couple knew they wanted a wedding reception that felt celebratory – a party that felt comfortable and fun for family and guests.
Aspiring to plan a similar event? Delaney’s creative, outside-the-box ideas apply to celebrations of all kinds from receptions to reunions and block parties. Here are three of our favorite tips.
Create spaces that encourage conversation.
If you want guests to invest in each other, create seating areas that are conducive to conversation. Chairs should be comfortable and gathered in small groups throughout the space. For Delaney, this meant conversation sets, fire pit sets, and a variety of seating options from lounge to Adirondack chairs.
Invest, don’t rent.
Rental furniture is expensive, and the choices can be somewhat limiting. So why not invest in furniture sets you can use in your home after the festivities are over? A fire pit set is a fun addition to your backyard or patio, and Adirondack chairs look particularly chic on the front porch. The same goes for décor such as pillows, area rugs, and string lights.
Include fun and games.
Activities bring people together and are a must-have for kid-friendly events. Delaney chose cornhole and supplies for roasting s’mores – crowd pleasers for the young and old!
Remember, your celebration should be a reflection of your personality and meet the needs of your guests. With some creativity, the options are endless.
Thanks Delaney!
